#tw mass shooting

LIVE

aphroditestummyrolls:

This is my town. A friend of mine worked at this Tops stocking shelves for years. He used to live in this neighborhood, he only recently moved. Another one of my best friends lives just two blocks from Jefferson.

Is there anything to say? I don’t know what else to say. Buffalo is the City of Good Neighbors. No matter where you are, you can find a jump for your car, someone to help you carry your groceries, an extra set of hands to shovel your driveway. We’re not perfect, but we are kind. This is such a violation.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for links and reputable sources to help the families of the victims, and to help support the Buffalo black community. I’ll post them here.

Tw: mass shooting, racism, hate crime, racially motivated murder

My heart breaks for those in Buffalo right now.

I’m in America, so mass shootings are often just another day to me. It’s incredibly sad but true. This one got me though, and I think it’s because it was a hate crime that was so premeditated. He drove 200 miles to find a black majority town after buying tactical gear, a head camera, and just… dude. What the fuck.If there’s one thing I can’t wrap my head around it’s hating people so much who have no effect on you because of their race or any other status.

Imagine being so twisted that you drive 200 miles to murder people who don’t know you and have never hurt you because of the color of their skin. Imagine being his mother who gave him a gun on his 16th birthday. Imagine being a family of radical white supremacists and not having your kids taken away when you post gifting them firearms on social goddamn media. Imagine being the dumb fuck who says “only a good guy with a gun…” when the good guy with a gun got murdered because he couldn’t pierce the bad guy with a gun’s tactical gear.

I’m not usually pessimistic and I still believe in doing all you can to better things, but I sincerely believe the United States is beyond repair.

Please keep your eyes out for verified charities and fundraisers to help those impacted by this horrible tragedy. And please get out and vote in all your local elections if we ever have a prayer of ridding the US of this gun pandemic.

i just can’t stop thinking about a white supremacist that wrote an 80 page plan to shoot up a super market in a predominantly black neighborhood and then proceeded to live stream it on twitch. like my heart really sitting heavy cause in america we know how these mass shootings go when they don’t kill themselves after doing what they did.

milaluxe:

Great question for Congress! What are you doing? Some of these children dead now weren’t even alive during Sandy Hook. It’s hard to think that maybe if action was taken back then these children would be home making plans for the summer instead of in a fucking morgue.

I’m so fucking tired. Warning triggery for mass shooting, language, and actually a bunch of shit. I’m putting it under a read more

But I’m from Texas and as a healthcare worker, it pisses me off when politicians say thoughts and prayers ✌. No fuck you. How about less thoughts and prayers and more pen on paper ? Change the gd law. ‍♀️ you claim to protect children but only to make sure they are born so that they can be killed in a fucking elementary school shooting. Like if your laws can’t change child murder than you are less useful than trash.

Like we know that politicians are being paid off by gun groups and we know that in other countries that gun control prevents mass shootings. There are peer reviewed studies on imperial data for over a decade that consistently say such. And the argument against it are fucking stupid.

But mental illness?? Then invest in mental healthcare but many shooters aren’t mentally ill and it’s impossible to kill a bunch of people so fast without a gun. They would be stopped way sooner if they had to use a slower gun or a knife.

But my guns?? Fuck your guns. Just because you get a boner at the gun range rather than paying child support on your kids, does not mean people should own assault weapons. And if the laws take away your guns then you never deserved them in the first place. All the laws being proposed take guns from people who are unfit.

But I hunt?? Then hunt. Get a license, pass a background check, and get tags to shoot the animal you want. That will remain legal. If you don’t then I hope the game warden takes you to jail. You can’t hunt with the guns they use to mass shoot because you will obliterate the animal with bullets.

But only people with guns can stop a shooter so we should arm everyone. That’s fucking stupid. Multiple military and police trained weapon experts say that it’s extremely difficult to do anything in a mass shooting situation. The most decorated shooter in US military history was shot on a gun range holding a gun. This isn’t halo games.

But the second amendment?? They also said you could own people and raped their slaves. Fuck ‘em. Plus again, you can own a gun if you go through the correct steps and if you don’t pass them then you don’t deserve the privilege. If you can’t follow the rules of the road then you can’t drive. This should be the same.

What I propose is

  • stricter background checks including mental health and social media. Many shooters literally put online their plan and then bought the weapons or had homicidal tendencies documented.
  • Mental health screening before weapon purchase. Literally a paper questionnaire would screen out many people with questionable motives.
  • License to own weapon required on all guns and the more deadly classes require even more licensing that require education to own. Some weapons shouldn’t be owned by civilians.
  • The classes have to be comprehensive on gun safety, the laws around gun ownership, and what happens to the human body when shot. They need to know exactly what happens when they shoot someone.
  • Limit the number of guns people can buy in a time period and ever. The stat on gun ownership is heavily skewed to look like a majority of Americans own guns but really there are people who own whole arsenals.
  • Waiting periods of at least a week so no one can buy a gun in a fit of rage and kill people with it.
  • No weapon ownership for people who have committed any violent crime ever. Domestic violence for instance.
  • Remove weapons from people convicted of violent crimes.
  • License each weapon and when it changes owners. If the gun if sold or destroyed, have paperwork on it.
  • Require proof in the form of a safe or gun lock that they will use for their weapons.
  • Convict people who leave firearms out where others can get them and tragedy happens. If there was a near tragedy, fine then steeply based on income and then use that money for public schools.
  • No more selling guns online and in pawn shops unless they can comply to license and background check laws strictly.
  • Have a gun buy back program and no question asked gun drop offs where people can get rid of guns they don’t want.

hey babes, some people have reached out to me regarding a mass shooting that took place in my city last night. i’m working on getting details and seeing how i can help my neighbors and community but i am safe.

a decade ago, 20 children and 6 staff members were shot and killed in the tragic sandy hook elementary school shooting. today, a decade later, 14 children and 1 teacher had their lives taken at robb elementary school in texas. it’s been a decade, and there has been nothing done to prevent this from ever happening again. may they all rest in peace.

the south texas blood and tissue center are in critical need of blood donations following this horrific mass shooting. you can visit their website to find a donation location.

cobraonthecob:

twice in my life, i’ve been in lockdown at a school.

once was in kindergarten, where a suspect was coming down the street towards my school. just a random criminal, i believe. nothing major.

the second time was in high school, i believe my junior year. it was lunchtime. i went to go use the bathroom, but i heard the intercom turn on and warn people to get inside. the audio wasn’t great, but i remember hearing ‘go to the nearest classroom’ and running back to the classroom i ate lunch in.

turns out that the school that was a half a mile down the street from mine got a school shooter threat.

they’re lucky - they have a fence.

my school doesn’t.

we’re wide open and exposed.

thankfully, it was only a threat and both the high schools in question only came out of that with the knowledge that they were threatened.

i hate that i am saying that the two schools were lucky in that they were only threatened.

because being unlucky means you get on the news and on wikipedia. being unlucky means there’s a number of students and teachers who were unfairly murdered. being unlucky means losing classmates and teachers. being unlucky means trauma.

and i still live in fear of going places. church, college, work, etc., all because some people think that people wanting limits on military grade weaponsmeans their rights are going to be taken away.

it’s not fair that every american student has to live with the fear and trauma of mass shootings.

I was a sophomore in high school when an armed man approached my school. It was a boarding school halfway across the country from my parents, and we were told to stay where we were and, if we were in our dorms, not to open the door to anyone.

An hour later, all the students were escorted to the auditorium. All I could think about was how much I wanted to go home. All I could think about was that I couldn’t even talk to my parents on the phone or hear their voices for comfort. Everything was silent.

Months later, at the same school, there was a bomb threat in one of the dorms, and we all had to evacuate our rooms to make sure we weren’t in the “blast zone.” Luckily no one was shot, and no bomb was discovered, but each incident had one common thread. Each person was “unhinged,” yet somehow, these unhinged people always get access to a firearm.

So many people are used to lockdown drills in the US it’s another thing entirely to live in the moment of an active threat.

Hey New York, can we have a few discussions?

Talks on the continuous systemic racism in New York. We need to talk about how property taxes are used to redline and segregate the state. We have the most segregated schools in the nation.

Like maybe strengthen the Red Flag law so those who present prior threats of generalized/mass violence can’t buy a gun.

Require a permit for an AR-15. I don’t object to the safe use of rifles and shotguns but no civilian needs an AR-15, especially without a permit.

At least the media is having a better directed discussion on this tragedy.

He drove over 200 miles

He targeted a grocery store in a known black neighborhood

He live-streamed his entire crime

There’s no way in hell he’s not going away for life (New York doesn’t have the death penalty).

Ten New Yorkers are dead and three injured because Payton Gendron drove across from Conklin (east of Binghamton) to a Tops in a known black neighborhood of Buffalo and live streamed his murder spree.

This is a hate crime. If anyone tries to claim racism isn’t a thing in New York, remind them that racism drove this mass murder.

2. Tweet by The Associated Press, user name @AP:

BREAKING: Multiple people were shot at a Tulsa medical building on a hospital campus Wednesday and “some unfortunately were killed,” a police captain said.

Tulsa police said in a Facebook post just before 6 p.m. that the shooter was dead.

Gun laws in Oklahoma:
— no permit required to purchase
— no firearm registration
— no owner license required
— no background check for private
sales
— no red flag law
— no permit required for open carry
— no permit required for concealed carry

And the state preempts local laws.

active shooters in three states at the same time is a policy choice.

governor greg abbott lowered the minimum age for buying assault rifles in texas to 18 just LAST YEAR. this gunman bought an assault rifle on his 18th birthday.

donald trump, ted cruz, and greg abbott are all scheduled to appear at the NRA’s annual conference in houston, texas in THREE days.

senator ted cruz has received more funding from conservative, gun rights groups and advocates than any other politician since 2012.

republicans and conservatives ALLOWED this to happen. they created the ability, the freedom, and the access for this to happen.

There was another mass shooting where at least five people (including the shooter) died. (Not to mention the one in Tennessee, though as far as I know so far nobody died from that one.) It was in Tulsa, on the 101th anniversary of the Tulsa massacre.

At this point every time there’s a mass shooting I just wonder “how did I not get caught in one yet?”

To be fair, there hasn’t been a record of a mass killings in my county. There were some around us (which includes two of the most infamous serial killers) but in this county alone all of the murders have either been personal or a robbery gone wrong. That doesn’t mean that it won’t happen at some point.

And of course because we’re so fucking used to mass shootings in the news, it’s going to be covered up by the Heard/Depp trial or some shit.
