“I’m angry,” Christine said finally. “Not just about Barb. About everything, all the time. I’ve fought more with my dad in the last few months than I have in the last six years. I’m worried about Nancy. I’m worried about Dustin. He won’t talk to me, and—and I’m just so paranoid that there’s something I’m doing wrong, something I’m missing, and by the time I figure out what it is, something terrible will have happened to him, just like last year. Like Barb, or…or El. Only this time it will be worse, because I should’ve known better, I should’ve done something, and after everything I still couldn’t. I’m angry and irritated and scared and…tired.”
Steve considered her, nodding thoughtfully.
“So basically, you’re having a blast.”
“Yup,” Christine snorted. “So much fun I can’t stand it.”
Savannah Agnes Brightly Carmichael is an investigative journalist for The Gotham Times known for her bold yet enlightening pieces centered within Gotham’s underworld. She shares an incredibly slow romance with Bruce Wayne, which is mainly due to their long, shared history dating back to when they were children; but they almost always end up together. The death of her mother at the hands of her father and the lack of justice served are her prime motives, and the fact that she is yet to actually deliver it in any of her iterations is a running plot point. To cut all ties from her father, she exchanged his surname for her mother’s maiden name after graduating from college. Seeing as her version in Gotham hasn’t even been to college, Carmichael was used as her last name. In the DC Extended Universe, however, she is already married to Bruce by the time of her appearance. Although her opinions about the Batman are undetermined, she has associated herself with him after his emergence as she thought that aside from herself, he is the only one who actually gets results. Throughout this partnership, she eventually figures out his identity; which seemed to have only strengthened their bond.

For the first time in her life, Martha King was nottempted by the promise of money and instead of giving up her daughter when Reginald Hargreeves came calling, she chose to keep her, to raise her. And so much the better for her when little Nellie started displaying promising abilities, Martha sees them as an opportunity, and Nellie King is turned into some kind of show pony, meant to trick the poor, grieving customers who came calling with a phony medium act.
In short, Nellie King had a very different childhood than the one the Hargreeves experienced and Martha King was very careful to keep her daughter away from Reginald Hargreeves, but a chance meeting with Ben Hargreeves when they are eight years old sets things into motion, and what follows is a tragic love story, spanning decades.
Following Ben’s death, Nellie thought that was that, she had no further connection with the Hargreeves, but whether she likes it or not, Nellie is just as much part of this story as any member of the Hargreeves family.
