Tyrogue, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Hitmontop for the Johtodex!

It’s evolution lines like these that make it a bit more clear why, while this project is called the “Johtodex,” it includes Kanto pokemon as well. That and the Johtodex is based on the Johto Regional Pokedex. The regions and their Pokemon are very closely linked, it would be weird to separate them.

It’s honestly pretty rare for me to have a fighting type on my team, at least back in the first few gens where most of them were just buff dudes (the only exception for me in Gen 2 was Heracross). While they aren’t my cup of tea, I do appreciate their designs, and I’ve always loved Hitmontop’s design. It’s always fun to find the Karate King in Mt. Mortar to receive a little baby Tyrogue of my own <3

#106 Hitmonlee / #107 Hitmonchan

Despite functioning as pair in the Generation I games, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan were not originally designedas a pair—they share almost no qualities. But their Gen II pre-evolved form Tyrogue does a great job of bridging the two designs with some original elements.

Normally we don’t consider later-gen evolutions and pre-evolutions for this project, but here it felt appropriate. So we took some inspiration from Tyrogue and Hitmontop, Nintendo’s Arms, and Bruno’s Hitmonlee in the Pokémon Adventures manga.
