Vah Medoh soared high overhead, cutting through the sky with ease. Link raised a hand to shield his eyes from the blaring sun, examining the divine beast. Distracted, he didn’t notice the small burst of wind coming from below him until it turned into a large gust. Link grunted, examining the area around him until a rito came soaring up to the platform from below.

The wind champion lands on the railing with ease, immediately holding himself upright and crossing his arms. He looked down his beak at Link, who inwardly sighed at the “i’m-better-than-you” stance Revali was taking. He didn’t seem to notice Link’s disgruntled expression.

“Impressive, I know.” The rito began. Link sighed and rolled his eyes, preparing himself for another speech. Revali had been like this since they first met. “Very few can achieve a mastery of the sky.”

Revali lifted his wing dramatically, waving it through the air and clenching his fist. “Yet I have made an art of creating an updraft that allows me to soar.” His gaze focuses on the hero before him, silently hoping to see some kind of approval from Link. But the knight remained straight-faced as he met the wind champion’s eyes, and a part of Revali sank. He quickly shook it off, stretching his wings before striking a pose.

“It’s considered to be quite the masterpiece of aerial techniques, even among the Rito.” He turned a pointed gaze to the hero, who still gave no response. Revali gave up and turned to his next source of self-validation: mocking. “With proper utilization of my superior skills, I see no reason why we couldn’t easily dispense with Ganon.” He gave a small bow, a sarcastic show of respect, before hopping off the railing, sauntering over to Link.

“Now then, my ability to explore the firmament is certainly of note…” He stopped at Link’s side, turning to face the direction in which he came. His eyes never left Link’s form once. “But let’s not-pardon me for being so blunt-let’s not forget the fact that I am the most skilled archer of all the Rito.” He drew back, attempting to catch a change is Link’s posture, but the hero remained unmoved. Revali inwardly snarled, growing more and more frustrated with the hylian’s lack of response to anything he said or did.

He began to circle Link like predator would circle its prey. “Yet despite these truths, it seems I have been tapped to merely assist you.” He stood in front of Link with an accusatory finger pointed at the knight, showing a little too much of Revali’s true emotions for the rito’s liking. “All because you happen to have that little darkness-sealing sword on your back.”

Revali turned away, becoming caught upi n his own thoughts. “I mean, it’s just…asinine.” When the rito glanced back at Link, he was delighted to see a single spark of frustration flash across the hero’s face. Eager to fuel the flames, he continued, “Unless…you think you can prove me wrong?”

Revali shoved his face towards Link, hoping to appear intimidating. He swore he saw the hero’s face flush for a second, but he figured his eyes were just playing tricks on him. “Maybe we should just settle this one on one?” He put his wing to his chin, wandering towards the railing, pretending to ponder something deeply. “But where…? Oh, I know! How about up there?!” He gestured to the sky with as much flair as he could muster. Vah Medoh flew high above the two, shining in the light.

“Oh, you must pardon me.” He laughed, once again assuming a stance of superiority. “I forgot you have no way of making it up to that divine beast on your own!” He turned, flaunting his wings one more time before taking off into the air, trying not to laugh as Link flinched at the sudden gust of wind. Midair, he turned back to face the hylian, who was looking up at him in stupor. Ah, it seems the knight wasn’t an emotionless robot after all.

“Good luck sealing the darkness!” he called out, and this time, he truly did mean well.
