Heey everyone! Been a long while… again… Last year was a weird one for me art wise, I started it out extremely motivated, like “oMG I NEED TO LEARN EVERYTHING AAND GIT GUD AT ART RIGHT NOOOOOWWW!!!1!111! aaAAAA” but somewhere along the way that motivation turned into the extreme pressure to make every single drawing absolutely perfect and the best one yet, and even if there was a tiny mistake somewhere it would be an absolute emberrasment and not worthy of me looking at it, let alone sharing it, but at the same time I was pressuring myself that I absolutely NEED to post things, and FAST, and I would get super anxious if I didn’t, but then due to the perfectionism I wouldn’t be able to finish anything I deemed “worthy” anyway and…. yeah.
So all of that perfectionism and anxiety combined into a nasty downward spiral that kinda obliterated my self confidence in my artistic abilities, and I decided to take a lenghty social media break to try and break that loop and just enjoy art for art’s sake on my own for a while, without worrying about sharing it or it having to be absolutely perfect, and just find the fun again!
But now I’m back and I’m happy to say that it worked, my art’s not perfect and never will be, since perfection doesn’t exist, and that’s okay! I’ve really missed you guys, and I gotta admit, not opening my social medias to check what everyone’s up to all the time was really painful.
I hope you all are well, Happy (belated) New Year, and thank you for sticking with me!
To the end of getting over my perfectionism, here’s a few Vergil portraits that I did ages ago that I thought were, and I quote; “absolutely dismal”.
But now that I look at them, I was experimenting with all kinds of different techniques for each of them, so of course not everything would stick, and there’s actually quite a lot of things I like how I did even if they were “failures”, and I still learned a ton, so I’m sharing! :)
