(Wednesday, 21. May)

Since the weather cleared up considerably after breakfast, we ditched our shopping plans and went to do more sightseeing instead. Our path led us to one of Hong Kong’s most famous tourist sites, Victoria Peak.
A short bus trip to central Hong Kong and a steep ride on the peak tram are all it takes to reach the peak area. This ride up and the peak itself offer a great view of Hong Kong, the bay/harbour area and Kowloon. There’s also lots of souvenir shops and a mall, everything the tourist-heart may desire. There’s also a special viewing platform that offers an even better view, but obviously access costs extra so we passed on that.

After enjoying the view for a while, we wanted to head back down and decided to do so by foot. The “Old Peak Road” is a small path winding down the mountain towards Central Hong Kong. Walking through the dense foilage, in combination with the heat and humidity, made it feel quite tropical. The way down also offered a closer view of some of the many high-rise apartment buildings (photo no. 3). Fun Fact: living in such a building may cost among 8000 Euros of rent per month, though there are more expensive ones and of course many cheaper ones, butt the latter do not have such a great view.

Working our way towards the bay again, we passed the zoological/botanical garden by chance. It’s rather small, housing “only” some birds, and mammals. The Lemurs and Raccoons were quite cute though :3 I always enjoy zoos, so we took our time wandering around even though we were already quite exhausted from the trip.

After that, we headed back to the hotel and had a lazy evening. We might visit Victoria Peak again in the next days, when it’s dark and the city can be seen with its night lights on.
