A second photograph of this trio, posing for von Gloeden; sadly in need of a little de-creasing, but still a gorgeous image of male affection and intimacy at the end of the 19th century. Dating to 1905, this glorious flower-strewn scene of summery bliss created by Wilhelm von Gloeden was sold as a postcard (the publisher’s initials AE a co-incidental match for this very blog!). A fine souvenir for the traveller to treasure, or perhaps a treat to send home to a friend who shared the same appreciation of aesthetic beauty and male beauty combined!

The ever-lovely Il Moro, Pancrazio Buccini, with his handsomely proportioned and elegant companion - what poise in the way he hollows his back! We’ve seen these two together here, and again here, and this model photographed alone, too. Perhaps one day we will discover his name.

An informal scene by Guglielmo Plüschow, one model looks on as the other carefully inscribes something into the wall; the initials of his name, perhaps, or could it be the year? The former fact unknown, the latter would read 1900, as the photograph was taken in July of that year.

Photographed by Vincenzo Galdi at the end of the 19th century, this portrait in classical style features an early appearance - indeed perhaps the very first! - by a fine young man who would soon find his fame in far more explicit and erotic images; we know him as Il Serpente.
