During the production of the 1953 film Peter Pan, Walt Disney shares a laugh with three children, performing as live-action reference models dressed as, from left to right, Wendy, Michael, and John Darling. Walt Disney’s animators would famously use live-action models as references for drawings and animations to create realistic movement, scale, and facial expressions. In addition to Peter Pan, live-action models were also used in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Pinocchio (1940),andSleeping Beauty (1959).

Walt Disney by the Decade Challenge: The 1960s (7/7)
In the 1960s, Walt Disney imagined a sort of utopian community for people to live in, one that drastically differed from the dirty, crime-ridden cities that were sprinkled across the U.S. He called this community EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow). In the picture above, Walt Disney points to his initial plans for EPCOT in a short film that promoted his new idea.
Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, only a couple of months after this photograph was taken.
Did you know? Charlie Chaplin was one of Walt Disney’s favorite actors. In his early years as an animator, he would often sneak in references to Chaplin’s movies in his 1930s animated shorts.

Do you have a #Disney playlist you occasionally listen (sing along) to? We do! It was an honor to meet and see a performance from Richard Sherman yesterday at #TCA15. He and his late brother Robert Sherman are the men behind the #music in classics such as Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and the #WaltDisney theme park song “It’s a Small World (After All)”. @americanexperiencepbs’ “Walt Disney” airs September 14 & 15 on #PBS. // @stephaniebergerphoto
