We are very proud of Rui Hachimura, Japanese and Beninese, who was just drafted #9 in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards in Washington, DC!! Rui is the first Japanese born player to be drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. Three other Japanese born players have either played with or been drafted by NBA teams, but none of them have had any significant playing time or results in the NBA. Rui will undoubtedly be the first Japanese born basketball star in the NBA and he already has a huge following in Japan! We wish Rui continued success with the Wizards and many blessings! After the most hectic summer the NBA has ever seen, the 2017-18 season is finally here.
And with that, the NBA staff at USA TODAY Sports takes a look ahead to the newest campaign with our annual semi-scientific record projections.
We have the Golden State Warriors leading the league in wins, again, after another stellar offseason. If they hit the 65-win plateau this year, that would be four consecutive seasons doing so (they became the first team in NBA history to do so three years in a row in 2016-17).
The Wizards aren’t typically a very good playoff team, but this year they’ve gone on a historic run for the franchise. As such, one DC-area bar took it upon themselves to craft drinks in honor of the team’s five starters. While the Bradley Beal sounds delicious, it’s time to toast PR John Wall (Rittenhouse) and C Marcin Gortat (shot and a beer, a rye shot).
