Planning for the 2019 Fest is in high gear. We have nearly 70 authors coming to Upper King Street in Downtown Charleston, Nov. 8 & 9, for two days of panels, signings, and general madness.

What’s that? Can’t make it? Well, you can still pre-order signed books at http://bluebicyclebooks.bigcartel.com/category/yallfest and we’ll ship them to you after the festival!

What’s that? You are coming but can’t wait in every line you want to? You can pre-order signed books and pick them up already signed on Saturday Nov. 9.

*Sorry, no personal inscriptions on pre-orders.

*We try very hard to have plenty of stock, but the fact is, during the festival some titles will sell out. Ordering in advance guarantees you’re not left out in the book-less cold, looking through the window at the lucky ones, their faces glowing in the warmth of a freshly-Sharpied title page..

*Questions? Call us at Blue Bicycle Books, 843.722.2666.

*Thank you for supporting Charleston’s locally-owned bookstore!

happy birthday and happy mother’s day to katniss everdeen   I think about her a lot…  I love her with all of my heart.

I think a lot about the epilogue in mockingjay a lot, too.  it’s set in a meadow.  despite being a graveyard atop what was once district 12, it is a place that katniss sings about and dreams about… a place that is safe for her children to grow up.

this drawing is a love letter of sorts to katniss and the meadow and rebirth.

mother’s day (reaping day)

katniss’s relationship with her mother is very important to me. while rereading the hunger games, it makes me sad that there’s no comfort in seeing her mother for the last time before she leaves for the capitol. a lot of katniss’s fears stem from her mother, but I think that, most of all, she fears being alike her mother.

I wish I could give katniss her mother’s love because there is a special feeling in being a daughter craving her mother’s love and comfort, and knowing that she won’t be able to receive it; or to long for it despite how strained the relationship has become.

I was sketching katniss in her post-games interview dress and got carried away.  I feel a bit bad because she would have been so unhappy during all of the capitol-related events.
