The magic of natural plant dyeing grows stronger with every batch. The top pic is of organic cotton hand dyed with black oak. The result was a nice honey mustard yellow but didn’t quite spark joy for me .
Did a quick bath in iron and omg the mossy green variegated tonals came out to play!!! I’ll be listing these lovelies as sets for this “Into the Woods” color. The light and dark yarns will be stunning worked in the same project.

Happy Cinco De Mayo y'all! I’ve been busy but finally have time to share 3 new colorways in my Bluestockinette Country Rustics collection. From left to right is Red Dirt Road - pomegranate overdyed with madder root resulted in a kakhi base topped warm clay reds. Center is Buttercup Fields-who new black oak bark was so fancy?? Right is Pink Conch-a diluted madder root dip created the prettiest rose tones! Listings will be up by end of day-just had to share my newest yarn pretties!

Experiment with black bean dye. The ph scale is fascinating folks!
1st pic on left is black bean dye with a drop of vinegar. Note how it is murky purple on left of bowl and pink red on right-acidity in action
Top right pic is 3 threads soaked in acidic dye and then washed in 3 different soaps to test their ph levels.
The blue thread on right side is dish soap(alkaline).
Middle thread is All dye/fragrance free -neutral?
Left side thread purple blue is ivory bit more alkaline but not bad.
Bottom pic is all 3 threads dipped in vinegar water rinse-they return a cool lavender shade. Science with yarn!

Natural plant dyeing in process. On the left are 2 hanks of organic cotton prepped and ready for the black bean dye I made last week. (Don’t worry the beans weren’t wasted-black bean soup yum!).
On the right is the yarn submerged in the dye. A cool blue gray right now…just have to watch and wait!!
