in my second attempt I modified the pattern a bit trying to smooth the edges of the head. I also replaced the three starting chains with a double single crochet, to fill the gap at the beginning of each round. It worked well.
Looking a little like wands out of Harry Potter movies, these odd tools are called ‘Nostepinne’ and are used to make ‘center-pull’ yarn balls and skeins. About 11 inches long; purchased for a very reasonable price off of eBay. Anyone that does woodworking on a lathe should be able to make one quickly. A very handy little tool for yarn workers. Do you really want to give your aunt a toilet paper tube as a gift? LOL!
I’m still very unemployed after 5 job interviews and my car is barely functional at the moment. The new one has a rounder, sturdier head, a fuller and more uniform neck ruffle, and larger spots that are fabric glued on to keep them more circular. She also has more polished face needlework.
