The CDC currently has a vile public awareness campaign going around that boldly erases that transgender and gender nonconforming youth face the brunt of violence within the LGBTQ community.

Their excuse? They haven’t figured out the right metrics or terms to use to account for gender identity in their research.

This is unacceptable. Transgender/GNC folks didn’t just sprout up yesterday, we’ve been around. You’ve had decades to get this right and you continue to wallow in ignorance while trans folks of all ages experience poor interactions with the healthcare system and society at large.

Also, some stats:

A 2013 survey of middle & high school LGBTQ students found 74% were verbally harassed for gender identity and 55% for gender expression.

72% of victims of anti-LGBTQ homicide were trans women and 67% of anti-LGBTQ homicide victims were trans women of color in that same report.
