We often mention here at Recycled Movie Costumes how much lighting can change the look of a gown. We also sometimes note how the proper undergarments can make or break a costume. This particular dress is a wonderful example of both.

This dress was first seen on Helen McCrory as Madame Le Notre in the 2014 film A Little Chaos, and appears to have been worn without any foundational garments, so its shape is not very well defined. The lack of proper undergarments is also a clue that this costume likely originated with an earlier production since it was not fitted to Helen.

The costume went on to be used in the 2019 first season of Sanditon on Anne Reid as Lady Denham. It appeared with much darker lighting, but with much better undergarments, giving the proper shape to the gown. With the drastic lighting change, one might say that these first two sightings are not recycled, but a glance at the trimmings confirms they are indeed the same.

The costume made a third appearance on extra in the 2021 second season episode of Hulu’s The Great, in the episode entitled Dickhead

A Little Chaos: Sabine De Barra [ISFJ 9w1]

image

Function Order: Si-Fe-Ti-Ne

Sabine specializes in creating garden designs, meticulous in their attention to detail and specific in their particulars. She spends much of her time outdoors in her garden; that’s the entirety of her obsession and focus, when she isn’t designing for other people or running her own business as a designer. She senses what seems off in a design and changes it,…

Interesting take! I would’ve typed her as a rare female INTP lead in a romance movie, myself - we agree on the functions, but I think her approach to her projects reflects a higher Ti/Ne approach (deliberately out of the box with placing that one plant just a bit to the left, the intricate, detailed drawings that she submits on somewhat shoddy paper with rough edges, the way the wheels in her head keep turning regarding the hydraulics problem after Le Notre mentions it and how excited she gets when she presents her solution (barging in uninvited and leaving right after), her charmingly messy house with scribbles all over the place, etc.).
On the other hand, the way she gets duped by the workmen and initially by the king, the complete confusion as to how she should behave at Versailles and, notably, the questionable fashion choice she makes with THAT hat scream low Fe-awareness to me. Then again, I might also just be desperate for a female INTP romance lead - they’re damn hard to come by.
