i never thought i could relate to takahashi more than i already did before this episode. we got hints of this before, but takahashi has spent so long trying to make himself smaller and live a generic, unassuming life in the hopes that it would just make people leave him alone. his grandmother, his only family and main pillar of support, passed away, and he basically forced himself to give up on everything he ever wanted to maintain the house in her absence, as if trying to make up for what he lacks, as if it’s all he’s worth and all he is allowed to have.
and then sakuko comes along and not only makes him realize that he doesn’t actually have to be lonely (along with introducing him to eventual friends he can rely on to understand him without constantly expecting him to explain himself), but tells him he actually can in fact have it all. he can have a family in the form of sakuko, a whole support system of people, someone to watch over the house. being by yourself doesn’t have to mean you’re alone, and being alone doesn’t have to mean you’re lonely! they will still have each other even if far apart, and if he wants to quit and go back then he can, and if it ends up not working out for them then that’s okay too!
it’s such an aro thing to force yourself to be smaller, to believe no one will ever understand you so why bother, to feel like you can’t live the life you want because the path was never laid out in front of you so clearly. to force yourself into new boxes to escape the old ones, to chain yourself down to avoid being set adrift. but happiness is subjective, and family is not a place. sometimes, having a family is not having someone to live with, but having someone who understands and supports you through thick and thin. you don’t have to always sacrifice what you want in order not to be lonely! those are fake rules and we don’t abide by them here! live your life! follow your dreams! choose your own family on purpose! build your own castle! FUCK!
honestly I know enough has been said about those posts that end with the entire bus applauding someone, but like it’s just SO unbelievable?? in my experience if anything of note at all happens on public transport we all just kind of quietly look around at each other with this expression
starting to suspect people don’t know the difference between purposefully obscure, inaccessible writing and just… writing that utilizes specialized language(s), the main purpose of which is literally unambiguity and clarity. you can’t write a paper using general language, you simply can’t. and i promise you you having to look up a definition doesn’t mean the author is classist and elitist and evil and wants to gatekeep stuff from you specifically
I feel like a big part of this is that people don’t see the humanities as complex disciplines that require years of study? I hardly ever see people complain about technical language in, say, a chemistry or a medicine paper, because we all seem to agree that scientists needing specific language is a normal thing.
But if a historian or a linguist uses technical language, lots of people act like they’re purposefully trying to gatekeep their field instead of considering that they’re just experts adressing other experts and that not all topics in the humanities can be condensed into a fifteen minute long divulgative ted talk. It takes years of study to get into humanities, same as it takes years of study to get into sciences, and of course we need divulgation and easy introductory materials, but you can’t expect to jump off the deep end into an article written at a phd level and automatically understand everything when you don’t have the basics down.
i say this with love in my heart, but acting like others interpreting billy’s behavior as racist is completely nonsensical is weird.
like, arguing that his scenes with lucas can be seen from a different angle doesn’t mean it’s necessary to desperately try to disprove his actions as 100% non-racist. multiple interpretations of canon can exist simultaneously.
I forgot that one of the most essential rules of cosplay is: Do not start working on your cosplay earlier than one week before the con. You may buy the fabric two months in advance, but don‘t do anything with it!

It’s important that everyone understand that, when I say that I “like” a villainous character, what I in fact mean is that I consider them to be both coolandmorally praiseworthy, as well as correct in their aims and methods andworthy of emulation by people in the real world. Just in case there was any ambiguity on this point.
I further elaborate that I consider them to be An Excellent Role-Model for Impressionable Children.
I almost neglected to mention that they are a worthy sexual partner and that I am aroused by everything that they do.
i cant explain that little feeling of joy when you read a book you thought you wouldn’t like but it turns out to be muuuuch better than you’d imagined
