Sampling of all the sick golden calcite on clear chabazite that @unearthed.minerals led us to a few months back. This stuff is endlessly aesthetic, and looks amazing under magnification and UV light. Very fun to photograph, but I neglected to really clean these before I documented them. The best of this stuff can now be seen at @carneliancoffee, but I’ll be sure to post more of it this week

Been in the moving process for a month, and with all my rocks packed up and waiting to be transported to their new home, this floater is the only one I have brought over. Found a few months ago in southern Washington state with @unearthed.minerals.

Hopefully I’ll get back to it before the end of the year, but it’s unlikely tbh! Too much real life shit lately, but I’ll be back

Golden stilbite and associated clay minerals from a local Clackamas County spot along the Willamette River collected months ago with @pnw_rocktography and @unearthed.minerals. These pockets are nice, but the really cool and scary looking material comes in smaller pockets in the same host rock, as this stuff is riddled with wildly varying formations, minerals and colors. I’ll post them here imminently as I play catch up on the last few collecting trips.

Hunting for crazy banding or crystal cavities in these small Columbia county full nodules can be frustrating; While these guys are all pretty dope, I know there are big geodes and deep color hidden inside a lot of this material, as I have many broken pieces to prove it! Only one of these, probably the biggest one, had hints of banding and a hollow interior. Might polish these up and sell as cheap mini sets all the same.

WOOOO!!! I just found a missing rock (in 6 main pieces) that was feared lost forever after I moved, and couldn’t find it after I set up the collection in the new house. @pnw_rocktography and @unearthed.minerals have the other two pieces, as I was with them when I found it. It’s one of my favorite finds, even though it’s still dirty and I’m not entirely sure what its composition is. Found in a very unique area, with gorgeous jaspers, agates, quartz, calcite, cinnabar and many other crazy things all around. I’ve found a ton of related material, though this is the best. One of my favorite areas, and it’ll be off limits for years due to wildfires in 2020. So glad I found this in the bottom of a random bucket I threw a bunch of stuff in when I moved. LABEL YOUR BUCKETS AND DRAWERS, FOLKS!

Finally, a post about the chabazite: this fantastic combo of calcite on chabazite features large, clear pseudo-cubic crystals with deceptively smooth faces, nearly all of which actually have incredible etching and patterns, many even visible to the naked eye. This first shot is through a handheld loupe, but @pnw_rocktography has taken some really excellent micro shots which you can see on his feed and on @unearthed.minerals. I just love the look of this stuff, and I’m hoping they went to find more today while I recover from my booster shot yesterday. A few of these shots are of a particular crystal lined void, the intact remains of which produced a chabazite tunnel that is just so sick.

Whole bunch of carnelian and other neat agate and quartz, from a Columbia County creek run on March 13th, 2020, as usual with @unearthed.minerals. A sweet quartz flower on some bubbly chalcedony, cool banding on a real branchy looking piece, and some other cool biz. There is a bunch of really cool textures and interesting casts in this batch, which I’ll post details of next.

Rainer calcite, crystal faces edition: all the crystal faces on these combos have really cool textures, which resemble melting record keeper formations on the calcite. The majority also have interior fracturing which, because of calcite’s perfect cleavage, makes it look like dogtooth phantoms inside each crystal. For all I know, they could actually be phantoms, but since they reflect rainbows depending on the angle you view them at, I assume it’s internal fractures. Someone please drop some knowledge here!
