Tohru and Akito - Fruits Basket

Her father’s color was white, he was very pure. Her mother’s was red. Pink is the perfect color for her.

Fruits Basket is one of my favorite manga series. I highly recommend people check it out, but if you do, definitely check out the MANGA rather then the anime. The anime kinda removes the most important aspects of the two central characters, Tohru and Akito. And one of those aspects is how similar both characters are in the manga. Both have the same fears, the same losses, the same “color”. It’s why they both ultimately drive the plot, by breaking or creating pieces of the puzzle. It’s a rather unique series, that really explores the human heart, and keeps defying shojo tropes (this series said “screw the love triangle” so beautifully).

I definitely also recommend the author’s other series : Hoshi wa Utau and Liselotte to Majo no Mori. However, be warned,  Hoshi wa Utau is about surviving suicide and family abuse, so trigger warning on that. But, it explores it really well, if it’s a theme you’d like to see explored with a gentle and honest narrative.

See Fanart Friday tag.

Hard to believe today is the final episode of Fruits Basket. It’s been an amazing ride guys. Thank you all for sharing it with me <3

abla-soso:

One of the main reason why I love Akito and Shigure’s ~toxic~ romance so much is that - for once - the girl is allowed to be damaged and nasty in a genuinely uglyway.

Akito is not an uwu precious, broken waifu. She’s a nasty bitch with a horrifically sad past that perfectly explains but doesn’t excuse any of her shitty, bad, no good actions.

It’s usually male characters who are allowed to be this way, especially in romance stories.

And the guy - for once - is not a naïve, spineless simp who passively lets the damaged, nasty love of his life use him and walk all over him. He’s a vicious, fearless man who laughs at his lover’s dangerous outbursts, challenges her, taunts her, knows her tragic ugliness inside and outside and doesn’t excuse any of it but still shamelessly love her despite AND because of it.

image

They both truly love each other so deeply and so possessively that it constantly breaks their carefully constructed personas. And while they always feel the need to re-build their carefully constructed personas around each other and wear them like a shield at all times, they still can’t resist the magnetic bond between them and let it destroys and re-build them over and over, bringing out the worst and the best of each other.

It’s only at the end, when Akito is finally free and starting to heal, that they allowed their love to breath and flourish away from it’s toxic foundation.

image

It’s one of the very few romance stories where the ~toxic~ love is achingly real but not romanticized, and the healing from toxicity is beautifully moving and believable.

mrsmarymorstan:

Akito: Please… cry with me.

Me, already sobbing: OKAY!!!!!!!!!

Same! The moment Akito said goodbye I was bawling my eyes out!

This is a really good video about Fruits Basket! I appreciate when people can admit there is more to this show than they first thought.

fuckinfruitybitch:

Watching the discourse of people who are anime (2019) only is insane. They all have this hatred for some characters and it’s like, ma’am that’s not very Tohru Honda of you.

Plus it reminds me of Frubana, where the people who let Shiki get abused say it’s okay because of what Akito did in the past, and how she’s allowed no happiness, not even allowed to have her son be happy.

Like there’s a difference between forgiving a character and excusing a character.

And people who slander characters miss the point that while not everyone deserves love, we should be kind, even if that means jsut shutting up

I mean in the end if we only focus on the misdeeds, everyone would be considered a horrible person. No one would be able to repent, and that would lead to people no longer trying, and that’s a problem

It’s the curse of nothing being allowed to change

And yeah they are fictional characters, but how we react to the media we consume is telling of the type of people we are

kyosohmastan:

I freaking died when I saw this panel. It’s so hard for me to picture Shigure as a dad for some reason? So it was awesome seeing him so involved in Shiki’s life. The most wholesome panel in the whole chapter.

I’m so glad to see them as a wholesome family!

When everyone knows the truth except for those involved is the most relatable thing ever.

  • Tohru and Kyo touch
  • Tohru and Kyo being embarrassed
  • Suffocated Yuki
  • Tohru blushing
  • Tohru trying to change the subject
  • Kyo not knowing what to do
  • Grocery shopping = a date (FINALLY!)
  • Kyo being obvious
  • Kyo not being able to hold in his affection for Tohru
  • Re-confirming Tohru x Kyo ship

If you didn’t cry during the final goodbye, I’m not sure you really understood the relationship between Tohru and the rest of the zodiac members.
