Charles Burnett‘s ability to capture the black everyday in a way only he can is one that was evident even in the earliest of his works such as this. Burnett’s approach to taking a documentary style to fictional work can be seen clearly here. His ability to give time to black space to be, is a legacy which can be seen echoed today in shows such as Donald Glover’s Atlanta for example. -
