She was in New York, one of four states in which she traveled on the East Coast, to promote her 1949 film, Love Happy. Although she made a brief appearance, the producer thought her looks would help drive people to the theaters.
To relax, she called de Dienes who was in New York and suggested they shoot. He bought the bathing suit she’s seen in and an umbrella for a prop and the two headed out to the island.

De Dienes was looking for a new model to shoot, and the head of Blue Book Modeling, Emmeline Snively, offered Norma Jeane - a young girl she believed to have the most potential because she had an important asset: a willingness to learn and be better, aside from her natural beauty.
