“Claireful Consideration” Pencil & Inks / Digital, 2019

A piece I did for ABV Gallery’s Drink & Doodle event last month. I almost forgot to post this here!

A revisitation of one of my characters, Claire, for the event. It’s always odd revisiting a character after some time away and seeing what changes have occured in that absence. I think I’ll have to populate my sketchbook a little more with her and Cam here in the coming months to keep up with their evolving forms. Form, while fluid, follows function, or so goes the saying.

Happy Ides of March

[ The Black Rabbit 4th Year Anniversary ]

“Almiraj / The Black Rabbit V” Sketchbook & Digital / Pencil & Exterior House Paint, 2019

Almiraj is ode to spring, new growth, and color emerging from the remnants of the mean seasons. The titling comes from the horned rabbits of sea serpent island in Zakariya al-Qazwini’s The Wonders of Creation.

It’s a little earlier than intended, but I’m excited to close out my fourth year as The Black Rabbit with this piece ushering in year five and all that it has to offer on the horizon. Feel free to go see the mural for yourself if you’re in the Atlanta area off Carroll Street :)

“Salty the Snowman” Sketchbook & Digital, 2018

Frosty’s lesser known cousin, Salty, ready to rain on your parade. A little “bah-humbug” for the holidays in a revisitation of Frosty’s kin.

Here’s to wishing you a Merry Christmas Eve and Happy Holidays to you wherever you are! Know you’re being thought fondly of, if it’s even just by this one person/snowman

“Calaca” Sketchbook & Digital, 2018

“Calaca” pays tribute to the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos, which would eventually inspire parts of the cultural amalgamation we know and celebrate as Halloween.

My rendition of the calaca borrows from the reverence of the dead celebrated in Mexico as well as an iteration of Death from the Guatemalan interpretation. I also mixed in elements of the cowboy aesthetic to pay homage to Mexicans laying the foundation to what would later become known as the North American cowboy (also because Death always feels synonymous with that aesthetic).

Feel free to like or reblog, and Happy Halloween / Day of the Dead !!!

“Bone Daddy” Sketchbook & Digital, 2018

It never quite feels like Halloween without the Pumpkin King himself (although I’m very partial to his scarecrow costume due to my love of all things pumpkin).

It’s been a while since playing around with this style, but I always forget how much I enjoy how it looks; it’s a fun medley I’ll have to play with some more. Anyways, just a little something extra for the month. Feel free to drop a like, comment, and / or reblog :)

“Rabbit’s Foot” Sketchbook & Digital, 2017
[ Happy New Years ]
Something intended to end the year on a lighter note, this piece is to wish everyone luck and direction with the new year. With times hazy at best, tumultuous at worst, direction can be a pleasant reprieve from constantly feeling scattered and/or torn. I wish everyone this clarity for their new year and I hope it sticks ;p

“Yue / Summer Reflections IV” Sketchbook & Digital, 2020

Guess it’s been a while since everything kicked off and we’ve been sequestered which has honestly put me in a little of an artistic rut, so I started this series of studies to play around some and to hopefully help pull me out of it a bit.

Anyways, like many of you I’m sure, I just finished a [re]run-through of ATLA and I’ve gotta say that show holds up so well, especially in today’s climate. I have nothing but love for it. Back when it aired, the conclusion of the Water book was always a big one for me and I REALLY enjoyed Yue’s design so this was my take on that revisitation. Lore, world building, major character arcs, all of the good stuff

“Big Shot” Sketchbook & Digital, 2019

There’s a lot that wouldn’t have come together without the catalyst for our heros and leader of Avalanche. Anti-corporation, pro-planet, and first black Final Fantasy character, he’s the eco-terrorist that leads the charge against Shinra. It would be disrespectful to not have him in the first round of FFVII fan art.

One of my brother’s favorite characters, I can’t wait to see this latest iteration of him in the remake :)

(also, sorry for the hiatus y'all. Took a break for a few weeks)
