OK BUT WAIT THE TIMELINE MAKES PERFECT SENSE THO!!
I decided to do a lil math (because it’s 5am and i have nothing better to do) so if it’s 1989 in heathers time you subtract that with how old veronica is (i’m assuming heather is the same age)
So you get 1989-17=1972
And let’s just say the MG time is now (2018) you subtract those two numbers
2018-1972= you get 46
Now if Janis is a junior then the typical age would be 16 so you SUBTRACT THAT with the previous number
46-16=30
So just a headcanon that basically Veronica and Heather would want a child so they go and adopt lil ol janis
(side thing: Janis would have been born in 2002 if we’re going by this year)

Because I’m also acutely aware of everyone calling her “Veronica” when talking about Mean Girls, and that is so fucking disrespectful.
I’d like to point out and dissect a comment I found on YouTube:
“I realize that she’s Barrett, not veronica, but it’s hard not to compare them when both stories are about one not-so-popular girl becoming popular with three popular girls. One of the popular girls is top bitch, the other is not so bright, and the third thinks they’re really cool when they’re not. Barrett is in both of them, both are older movies turned into musicals and both involve the “close” friend getting almost forgotten. People don’t compare because Barrett plays veronica, the compare because Mean Girls is Heathers without the murder, and if they do compare for the Barrett-Veronica reason, they should take a goddamn hike. “
It should be simple to not compare them. They are different stories with different plots and very different roles.
Heathers is about a sociopathic boy worshiping a normal girl and manipulating her into becoming an accomplice for multiple murders.
Mean Girls is about girls fighting over boys, drama, and getting hit by a bus.
Veronica was plenty okay, she fit in and had a friend who cared for her whom she ditched for a harmful boy and 3 harmful girls. Her friends tried to commit suicide, that being one of the many reasons she woke up from her ‘haze.’
Janis was unfairly treated as a basket case and called slurs, after she made a friend said friend turned on her and did exactly what she had been advised not to do. She was then blamed for the friend’s actions.
Heather’s was a cult-classic turned musical that is ONLY viewed as normal because it was severely diluted, especially in the cast album. In the story a girl wrongs many people, is an accomplice to multiple homicides, communicates with dead people, lies, lies, and lies, and finally turns around and decides that she controls the school at that point and deserves her friend(s) back even though they all suffered because of her.
Mean Girls is a story about the typical high school trope of three ‘perfect’ girls running a school and hurting other’s while they try to deal with their own problems in the most destructive ways possible. A girl decides to worm her way in, fuck the main girl over, and then take all three of their spots, becoming a bitch herself. And all of that because she wants everything, including a boy, and promptly destroys things to get it, including her relationship with the only 2 people who welcomed her with open arms, consoled her, helped her, and got screwed over in the process.
Heathers was over-dramatic and unrealistic in so many ways that it drew a large crowd, Mean Girls is much more realistic and honest and is somehow living in it’s shadow because people assume they’re the same.
And besides all that, Barrett is not those characters, she is Barrett.
So, stop fucking calling BARRETT WILBERT WEED “VERONICA” BECAUSE SHE IS NOT VERONICA. Veronica is a role she played years ago that cannot be compared to the role of “Janis,” who she plays now. In an entirely different show. The concept isn’t hard.
