The marches drew 3.3 million people to protests on all seven continents. For the women shooting it, it was a chance to make history, but also record it.

The Los Angeles Women’s March expected 80,000. 750,000 reportedly showed up.

  • All across the U.S. — and around the globe — participants came out for women’s marches on Saturday. In Los Angeles alone, the turnout exceeded organizers’ expectations almost 10 times over.
  • Organizers expected 80,000 people to show up to march in Downtown LA, one NBC LA reporter said in a tweet. But the total was closer to 750,000, according to updates from the organizers.
  • Celebrities came out for the LA chapter of the march, too — Barbra Streisand, Kerry Washington, Natalie Portman, Ariana Grande, Laverne Cox and Demi Lovato were all reportedly at the march. Read more

Janelle Monáe brought out the Mothers of the Movement at the Women’s March on Washington

  • Janelle Monáe did not come out alone to speak to those in attendance at the Women’s March on Washington.
  • Monáe brought two mothers of those who were killed by police or gun violence  — the Mothers of the Movement — on stage with her.
  • On stage, Monáe approached each of the mothers — who also appeared on stage during the Democratic National Convention in July — and asked them to say the name of the child she lost and then asked the crowd to repeat those names.
  • Lucy McBath, mother of Jordan Davis, and Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner, led the chant alongside Monáe.
  • “We’re going to say ‘Jordan Davis!’ so he can feel us, and we’re doing this for his mother!” Monáe said to the crowd after Davis’ mother said his name. Read more

lol guys i know we all ALREADY KNOW that everything trump and his reps say is garbage nonsense from the pits of Lie Dirt but just in case you are hearing this particular falsity: there has been nowidespread misrepresentation of the numbers at the Inauguration, and PARTICULARLY no exaggeration of the paucity of those numbers as opposed to those at the protest. Ask literally anyone who was physically in this city this weekend. Literally anyone!!!! You could ask a dogwhich day was the Fun Day With All the People and the dog would be like “Raturday, Raggy!” You could ask a five year old DC child “what day was the big day, Friday or Saturday?” and that child would be like “oh Saturday for sure, that was wild, did something happen on Friday?” And you could be like “yes, a neo-Nazi got punched in the face on live TV” and the child would be like “hooray!”

LMAO YES!!!!

Before you hear anyone say anything to the contrary (as you know they might):

There were dozens and dozens of marchers waiting in lines to thank the members of the National Guard lining the route as we moved towards the White House.

Each of these marchers, in a tidy, patient line, shaking the hands of every National Guardsperson as we approached the end-of-route barricades, looking them in the eye and saying thank you.

The members of the National Guard were polite, respectful, and patient. They greeted the marchers with the same calm, professional respect, and sometimes smiles, they were getting.

Not only did I not see any conflict between protestor and guardspeople, the protestors made an active effort to keep things peaceful and respectful, and the National Guard reciprocated.

It was threatening to rain in DC today. It was grey. It was just as cold as it was yesterday.

Don’t let Donald and Co. convince you that it was the weather or anything else.

Hundreds of thousands - at least half a million - people got to DC this weekend. At least half a million people were willing to stand out in the cold and damp on the National Mall.

Just not for him.

A decade before the historic Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, another notable meeting took place. In 1837, black and white women joined forces to challenge both slavery and patriarchy at the 1837 Anti-Slavery Convention. This little known gathering was written out of history – until now.
