Community Futurisms: Time & Memory in North Philly 002 - Black Space Agency ———-/-/ Inspired by the legacy of the Fair Housing Act, Civil Rights and Black Liberation movements, and the space race in North Philadelphia during the 1960s, #BlackQuantumFuturism presents art installation and community programming exploring affordable and fair housing, displacement/space/land grabs, and gentrification through the lens of afrofuturism, oral histories/futures, and Black spatial-temporal autonomy. About Youth HEALers Stand Up!: Youth HEALers Stand Up! is a collective of young people ages 13-24 who have struggled against homelessness, and who are committed to sparking and maintaining a youth-led movement to fight youth homelessness, housing insecurity, and poverty in Philadelphia and beyond. The HEALers are committed to altering power dynamics in youth serving systems so that more young people have access to decision-making processes that affect their lives, and so that adult professionals learn to see youth as potential resources for creating solutions, rather than as problems themselves. At the same time, The HEALers are committed to creating a space where participants and community members experience healing through consciousness raising, peer support, and solidarity building around youth homelessness and related experiences of foster care, incarceration and detention, and/or intergenerational poverty. The HEALers are housed at People’s Emergency Center, a comprehensive community development and housing non-profit serving the West Philadelphia community since 1972. —————————– Workshop is part Community Futurisms: Time & Memory in North Philly 002 - #blackspaceagency | #afrofuturism #youth #homelessness #youthactivism #wakanda #philly #phillyyouth #blackfutures #communityfuturisms #communityfutureslab (at Icebox Project Space)

CP Time has been both a defense mechanism against Black communal trauma and post-trauma under the conditions of class warfare and racial oppression, and a harkening back to a more natural ancestral temporal-spatial consciousness and presentism /// Time Travel Experiment #1 (Experimental Time Order) youtu.be/r0s3JM5mk8s | #afrofuturism #timetravel #diytimetravel #blackquantumfuturism #bobsweeney #bojobreeze #experiments #happynewyear #temporality #nonlinear #newyear #recurrenceplot #blackfuturism #blackfutures #communityfutureslab #cptime #futuresciencesbooks
Tatyana describes her poster: “Black women and girls fight against a lot of things in our daily lives. Misogyny and anti-blackness to begin. My poster depicts a teenage black girl wearing the names of black women who have lost their lives due to state-sanctioned violence, street harassment, transphobia, misogynoir, sexism, and racism. Paired with an excerpt from Audre Lorde’s poem “Harriet”, my poster illustrates the fight for black women and girls to live freely, to speak and be heard, to be seen, to be valued.”
ARTNOIR is excited to be collaborating with Black Lives Matter on their Black Futures Month project during Black History Month. This project is designed to inspire people during this challenging social & political climate through art and the written word to dream about tomorrow today.
Each day in February, Black Lives Matter will release an original piece of art and an accompanying written piece to reclaim Black History Month and demonstrate the importance of using art as both an inspiration and an organizing tool. Artists from around the world have been commissioned to use their genius to promulgate the conversation about systemic racism and violence against Black people.
Today we are thrilled to co-host an interactive Q&A with visual artist Delano Dunn, digital all-rounderBabusi Nyoniand organizer/writer Miski Noorfor a candid and spirited conversationviaTumblr’s Answer Timeseries.
Our conversation explores how visual art and writing can serve as a platform to discuss pressing issues that impact Black communities throughout the diaspora from education to immigration.
“Of the many things we’re compelled and encouraged to do first in the face of Trump’s attacks on our basic rights and humanity, dreaming isn’t necessarily one of them. But in the face of unimaginable assaults on our futures, we absolutely cannot cede our ability to imagine for ourselves.”
