#bmovie
I was honored when I got asked to review some DIY short films made by one of my fav youtube Mone Media (his cartoon collections saved my sanity over the pandemic) and to my shock he makes no budget horror movies. Welcome mone to the family by subscribing to his channel on youtube. I posted on my YouTube page a better break down but heres the basics. He directed me to his recent short “Thursday the 12th” a straight faced spoof on Friday the 13th on a different kinda Jason that just don’t give a fuck. Simple , straight to the point homage no brainer that with witty dialogue and smart shots makes for a lot of fun for something not to be taken too seriously. Jason is busting right out of his costume before bustin some heads.
Then I watched Mones feature film. His first attempt at a feature called MONEYTREE. Shot on digital with friends that might suffer from too many phone conversations yet that too feels right at home with DIY film makers first flicks.
A story of a guy down on his luck , selling drugs to get by but getting screwed. When a promise to change his luck comes from a mystical source in the woods he takes it but shit goes worse. You forget the horror element at times as the lead is legit selling his hard times story but the seriousness of that is heavily contradicted by the weird magical side story , but with a wacky creative killer makes for a great juxtapose in the story. A simple low budget flick that missed out on getting on those great multi pack low budget horror dvd sets back in the day. The ones with early Polonia, Sheets and Wascavage stuff on them. If you follow me you know you love that shit. So check Mones movies out and his cartoon archive videos on YouTube and welcome him to the underground b movie family cause sure our genres not for everyone but for us, he has a future. I better see more from him.
Check out Mone Medias youtube page now and have a damn good time https://www.youtube.com/c/MoneMedia
