please validate me I’m still learning how to animate
WIP of my part for the Grim Grinning Ghosts MAP. I LOVE this map so much. the art direction alone was enough to draw me in. There is one more scene I need to do, but it’ll be PMV with tweening cause I don’t want to die trying to make the Halloween deadline.
Brokentail sketch. Had an idea of an au where he goes with being a medicine cat instead of clan leader. Still evil and all but poisons cats he wants out of the way and manipulates his leader with false prophecies.
Apparently on a warrior cats roll, I wanted to see if I could put variation in character design by picking out a bunch of canon cats that p much had the “brown tabby amber eyes” description!!
listening to blackstar’s novella rn and i’m reminded that tigerstar uses extremely fascist rhetoric. brokenstar does too but spends less time speaking because he’s always trying to fight.
tactically brokenstar is the most successful. he drove out an entire clan. he accomplished a large goal, while also demolishing everything including his own clanmates (and literally baby cats) in his path. tigerstar failed to meet several of his goals.
tigerstar and brokenstar are two different types of evil. brokenstar is impulsive and shows no care at all for life, even his own. he does not care if kits die, he does not care if his family dies, he does not care if anyone dies and shows a complete lack of regard for his own wellbeing. he experiences no emotions, so he must do exhilarating things, including murder, to compensate. every cat he is closely involved with is simply a stepping stone or a tool and he does not listen to guidance while tigerstar may be slightly more amenable. i don’t think brokenstar would’ve teamed up with any clan at all.
tigerstar cares about his own life and the lives of some. he has attachments to some cats that he could consider friends and i do think that he cares about (at least some of) these cats as friends or family (i.e. dustpelt, longtail, whitestorm, thistleclaw, leopardfoot, goldenflower, tawny & bramble, etc. didn’t include darkstripe because i genuinely think tigerstar doesn’t like him.) he is like thistleclaw in this way but thistleclaw seems to be slightly more impulsive as well as willing to kill for sport like brokenstar.
brokenstar kills for sport (he uses needing more territory as an excuse to beat the shit out of windclan over and over) while tigerstar does less of. tigerstar is more complex because he actually seems to have emotions and feelings. both are evil for evil’s sake, it seems, but tigerstar has some motives. brokenstar is only motivated by war and killing and murder. and having power over large groups of cats.
tigerstar has some of the most textbook fascist rhetoric, like talking about how half clan or kittypet blood is destroying the “pure” blood of the clans that “their ancestors” had created for them. we know tiger’s dad was pinestar, a kittypet, so i think tigerstar has insecurities. brokenstar does not.
I wrote this a while back, but i’m still really keen on doing something with my lil Rowanclaw headcanon drabble!
It’s sort of a bit out from the timeline, but I’ve always been fond of the idea that Rowanclaw was one of the kits that were forced to train early under Brokenstar, and that his mentorship was picked up later by Jaggedtooth. He never really had a childhood, and for a good chunk of his adult life, he was rather harsh, closed off and berating to those around him, inputting unsolicited advice and just taking charge where he wasn’t required to (all traits Blackstarsaw as key in a deputy so that’s how he finessed that position later.) He was never necessarily a cruel or mean cat, in fact, he was rather just and involved, but just very worn and closed off. However as Rowanclawwent from disgusted and dismissive of Tawnypeltand her origins, to truly seeing her as a respectable and amazing cat, he began to become more open minded and work to change his mindset. He didn’t want his own past strife to define him, and swore he would do better than Brokenstardid to him and his peers. Long explanation but it’s kinda what I see as the reason he fumbled THE HELL out of the whole “Darktail & the apprentices” situation, because he didn’t want to be harsh on them or oppressive to them as his old leader had, and in a way that was somewhat of his downfall.
