I came across an old school coal chute cover for a Bronx Building on 231st Street in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. What was this used for?
Before buildings were heated by gas and oil, coal was used for heating. The coal would be delivered to the building and dumped through to the basement (or the storage area) via the coal chute. The chute would be located on the side of the building.

I love it when old signs that are painted on a building reappear when a building gets torn down/renovated. This sign for a Studebaker auto dealership still has its bright blue color. On Fordham Road between Cambreleng and Belmont Avenues.

Was at Westchester Square (East Tremont Avenue and Westchester Avenue) in the Bronx today and noticed an old sign peeking out behind the sign for this newsstand.
What I find curious is that next to the old school 7-Up logo is the word “Midget.”Was that part of the name of the previous newsstand/soda shoppe that was located there? Any old school Bronxites know what the “Midget.”was?
