#but im still here

LIVE

Theres nobody to blame but me. Because i refused to ask for the help i needed. I didnt anyone to be burdened by me that’s why i chose to keep it to myself. Some of you saw it, some maybe thought i’d seek help when it becomes overwhelming and chose not to interfere. I appreciate you all and i see all your efforts. I could’ve asked for help but i didnt and this is my choice. Don’t continue living with being burdened by my demise. Wherever i am right now i am sure to find the peace that i’ve been longing for. There is freedom in death afterall. I’ll be sure to rest in peace. But i surely won’t find that peace if you all continue to live with guilt and regret of what happened to me. You can be sad for a little bit, maybe cry from time to time but i want you to move on and live your life fully, for my sake as well. I know this is extremely selfish on my part but i wish that you will not be burdened too much of my absence. Live and follow your dreams. Live the life you’ve always wanted. And if there is reincarnation, i’d still wish to know and become friends and family with you all. Don’t blame yourselves. I am not blaming anyone. I appreciate each and everyone of you who came, who left, who stayed. I love you all. Farewell.

Yep, this is still a thing. It’s been a busy couple of months, but now that things are falling back into place, I want to get back into writing. It’s not much (gotta get my writing stamina back up), but it’s something. And in this house, any something is something to celebrate.

572 words under the cut.

“And the next step is…”

The Amiriad engineer looked over the engine before answering, “Do a full test of the ship’s components.”

“Correct,” Bookworm said. She turned to the several engineers watching. “Is this a good time to break for lunch?”

“It would be, yes,” one of the engineers said.

“Then we break for lunch. I’ll see you all here in an hour.”

The Amiriad engineers cleared out, leaving Bookworm and Knight alone. “You are handling the assignment well,” Knight said, tail wrapped around her waist.

“To be honest, I’m staying away from the cafeteria,” Bookworm said with a small chuckle, “but I think I’ve gotten over Sparrow’s teasing.” An Amiriad entered the room and approached Bookworm. “Can I help, uh, you aren’t one of the engineers.”

“No, I’m not,” the Amiriad said. “Can we talk for a moment, just the two of us?”

Bookworm turned to Knight and whispered, “I was wrong.” She then turned to the Armiriad and said, “We can walk a bit of a ways away, sure.”

“Thank you.” Bookworm and the Amiriad started to walk towards the opposite side of the room. “My name is Utchik, and I have a request.”

“A request?” Bookworm looked towards Knight for a second before refocusing on Utchik. “What kind of request?”

“I wish to see the universe. The Amiriad have banned galactic travel, aside from those with political sway. I don’t have the connections to travel as a political aide, so I hoped you would take me as a crew member.”

Bookworm said nothing for a second. “You want to join us?”

“Yes.”

“Well, I’m not the captain, so-“

“Wait, you aren’t the captain?” Bookworm shook her head. “Oh. Could you ask your captain?”

“Look, I’m sorry, but I don’t think you would want to join our crew.”

“I do, though.”

“No, you don’t.”

“Why not?”

“It’s a long story.”

Utchik said nothing for a moment. “I would still like to join you.” As Bookworm went to speak, Utchik quickly said, “Please. I sense there is concern for me joining, but I assure you, I am a capable crew member.”

Bookworm sighed. “Alright. I’ll asked.” As Utchik thanked her, Bookworm called Boss on her datapad. “Hey Boss,” she said as Boss answered.

“Is everything okay?” Boss asked.

“Yeah, training is going well,” Bookworm said, “but now an Amiriad is asking to join our crew.”

“You know we can’t-“

“I know, I know, but he’s insistent. He won’t take no for an answer. And I don’t want to tell him about our-” Bookworm looked at Utchik ”-problem.” Boss said nothing for several seconds. Bookworm felt a claw on her shoulder and jumped. “Hey!”

“Sorry, but I wanted to plead my case to the captain myself,” Utchik said. “Can your captain hear me?”

Bookworm took a deep breath. Knight slowly unraveled her tail before raising it up above her shoulder. “They can hear you, yes,” Bookworm said.

“You don’t want-” Boss started to say.

“I wish to join your crew,” Utchik said. “Please. I want to learn more about the galaxy than what’s in stories. Your crew is special, even among the few merchants that trade here. I know this is my best opportunity.”

Bookworm saw Boss’s posture relax. “Very well,” Boss said. “Head down to docking bay 296 and we’ll get started on the paperwork to make you a member of the crew.”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Utchik said.
