it was an immense honor to board this episode! i grew up watching so much captain planet… i still cannot believe that i wrote dialogue for LeVar Burton and David Coburn!!! what a world!
The Crystal Gems face their greatest challenge yet when Mayor Nanefua sells the deed to the beach to an industrialist named Hoggish Greedily. But, Steven recognizes him as an eco-villain who loves to decimate the environment. To make matters worse Greedily has teemed up with Yellow and Blue Diamond and is using Homeworld technology with the goal to destroy the Crystal Temple and pollute the ocean. Not only that but he has used that said technology to capture a team of young heroes also defending the Earth called The Planeteers. Now Gaia, Spirit of The Earth, must give their magic rings to the Crystal Gems and make them temporary Planeteers to stop Greedily and save the real Planeteers. With the help of a environment saving hero named Captain Planet can they stop Greedily’s pollution solution and save the Temple?
I still get asked where my old tumblr banner of blue-faced Goku came from or why I made it lol. It’s based on an Adult Swim joke where Ted Turner turns into a homicidal Captain Planet and goes ballistic on people who pollute and litter the Earth, and I had a laugh thinking about Goku doing the same thing after literally dying over and over to save the planet
Just wanted to post some of the design work I did for one of my favorite episodes! Amazing work from @scrotumnoseand@haewon-lee on boards and designs i feel like I’ve watched this episode 10 times by now and I’m still excited by it! Dave did some great takes on our characters in the Captain Planet style and I touched the drawings up with help from our art director John Pham who did a pass on them, he’s super knowledgeable about that era of cartoon realism! The crew put a lot of effort and heart into this crossover and I hope you can enjoy it too! Colors by @kalidraws and art direction by John Pham.
