“You’re quite right; life to me is just a spectacle, which—thank God, and thank Italy, and thank you—is now more beautiful and heartening than it has ever been before.”
If Caroline had been introduced to Pleasant Company as a historical character a little earlier than 2012, she might have had a cookbook as part of her collection. I did a bit of editing to come up with what the cover might have looked like. It uses a lot of her signature color of medium pink, and the image of Caroline holding the bread comes from her paper dolls & play scenes set. The bushel of apples and jar of preserves is from Felicity’s paper dolls.
For the contents of the cookbook, I hunted through Caroline’s central series carefully to find any mentions of food. Following the standard layout of all the other six Pleasant Company character cookbooks, here’s what some of the recipes could have been:
I always thought Caroline had the prettiest coloring of the historical characters but her main drawback was the classic face mold, so I decided to try my hand at a slightly different version using a Joss face. I call her Caroline Charlotte Thackeray to differentiate her from AG’s Caroline. She’s quite pretty, but I haven’t entirely made up my mind yet. Maybe with a dress in a softer color?
Sometimes Caroline went to the shipyard with Mama, where the men were already at work on Lieutenant Woolsey’s new gunboat. Sometimes Caroline stayed home with Grandmother, where the garden grew as many weeds as beans and carrots. Always, though, she was waiting for her father–for a glimpse of him hurrying up the hill, for his shout of greeting, for his Papa-scent of tobacco and sawdust, for the feel of his strong hands squeezing hers as if to say, Well done, Caroline. I’m proud of you.

Exciting news! I’ve opened an Etsy shop for American Girl doll clothes! My first release is a collection of vintage-inspired summer outfits. It has been a lot of fun for me to browse vintage clothing and then make them in doll size! In fact, it is WAY more fun than making human-sized clothes. I may never go back to making stuff for real people.
Check out my shop because I am so unemployed!!!!!!
