As a reminder, you can send your survey and update your response at any time until April 15th. Please make sure you get your survey in if you haven’t already - there isn’t much time left! If we don’t receive a response, we may be unable to deliver your bundle. Remember to check the email associated with your Kickstarter account!

I’ve been talking about it long enough, so here’s a little sneak preview of the piece I wrote for @carpenoctemzine,Moment of Bliss! If you like cold war era lesbian vampires, then my story might just be for you!
Already the faint holes left against the man’s pulse are closing. A heart attack, it would seem. Collapsed on the floor of his own run-down motel room. Tragic, really, and just too bad for the Shtatnikithat he died with all of that precious information he’d thought so safe inside his bald little head. What a fool, she thinks with a faint grin.
She turns to leave, and that is when she hears it, the faint gasp — clear as a bell — as if it were uttered just beside her ear. Wheeling, she turns and scours the room, her sharp eyesight flashing in the moonlight, her senses stretched out like a blanket to catch the faintest scuttle of rat beneath the floors.
Nothing.
That was impossible.
Not a single heartbeat in the room, not a breath, not a whiff of scent. They were alone, just she and the corpse of her dinner, just as she had been sure they had been when she’d entered.
And yet —
“Did you just kill that man?”

Carpe Noctem: Vampires Through the Ages is an anthology of original art, comics, and historical fiction about vampires around the world. I’m contributing a short story about a Heian-period vampire titled “The Kumo Diary,” which follows a Meiji-era scholar’s assistant who discovers an old manuscript that she initially mistakes as a lost chapter from The Tale of Genji. It was a lot of fun to write about Heian-period demonic women, and I also enjoyed doing research in order to put together the Meiji-period frame story. I’m very proud of the twist at the end, and I hope readers will get a pleasant chill from the gradual transformation of the two narrators’ distinctive voices.
