Mini-tutorial: how to edit placement slots

for TS2 object in SimPe

You can clone an object that has sufficient number of slots and edit the coordinates. It’s SOOO much easier than adding slots from scratch! I only did that once and I’ll never do that again.

image

Open the CRES resource and inspect the drop-down list. Identify the slots and type down the names. Original slots are located higher on the list (you can see this coffee table was cloned from 1-tile table, if it was 2-tile there would be another slot_coffee up there)

Open your mesh in milkshape, create a thin, elongated cube shape (Modeltab, “Box” button). Duplicate it as much as needed. Now you can move these around and plan where you’d like to add slots. Make sure nothing sinks into your object’s surface. Select one of the vertices on the bottom, go to Vertex menu and use Extended Manual Edit tool to read the position. Type down X, Y, Z values. When you are done with all the cubes, convert the coordinates for SimPe. It’s using a peculiar system for some reason.

X = - X (so -X = X), Y =Z, Z =Y

In case of this hexagonal table I could read the coordinates from vertices on its surface. But IMO perfectly arranged slots on coffee tables look a bit weird ;).

Figuring out the position of each slot can be tricky. But if you were adding your own slots you’d have to go through that process anyway.

Now click on each slot in the drop-down list and edit the Translationvalues.

Notes:

*Extended Manual Editis a Milkshape plug-in

*Slot locations DO NOT REFRESH on loading the game. You have to pick your object from the catalogue again, each time you update the coordinates.

Thank you so so much for this tutorial, from the bottom of my heart!

Your explanation and “reverted” translation chart is the best I could find, and, more importantly, the only one I understood and that worked for me.

(Semi) Tutorial : Notes and Tips for Trans Sims

Xan here! What started as me trying to figure out a mesh turned into…this. I’m sure someone else has written guides on the topic, but I couldn’t find them, so I put this together. I made it mostly for my own reference–I keep forgetting which tags to use–but I thought I’d share in case anyone else might find it useful. (Requires: Sims 4 Studio)

Special thanks to:

  • @gncc for getting me thinking on the topic (great blog for inclusive cc)
  • @saurusness for reading my draft, and trying to explain UVs to me (even if it went right over my head)
  • @helgatishaand@sciophobis for the poses
  • And to Carmen and Erik for the 48+ hours they spent being dressed and undressed for the making of this tutorial.

I am STRUGGLING with how gender and sex work with meshes in the Sims. I used two meshes, one for masculine frame, one for feminine, and tried to make them functional for all genders. And for the last two hours, I’ve been stuck here:

If I lock by frame:

  • trans-femme looks fine ✔️
  • male looks fine ✔️
  • female looks fine ✔️
  • trans-mascbreaks❌

If I lock by gender:

  • trans-masc looks good ✔️
  • male looks good ✔️
  • female looks good ✔️
  • trans-femmedistorts❌

If I lock by gender andframe:

  • None of the trans Sims get clothes ❌ ❌ ❌

If I don’t lock anything:

  • There’s two of everything and you have to guess which one is right ❌

Even using separate meshes, I can’t get it to work right. Am I losing my mind or is this just really hard? Is there a secret I need to know? orz Someone help

In case anyone was wondering, the answer ended up being: lock the AF mesh for both gender and frame, and unlock the AM frame for both. That way femme Sims have one, and masc, trans-masc and trans-femme have the other. And nobody looks distorted. ❤️

Since this gained some traction, let me clarify that the above refers to bottoms! Turns out that Trans Sims are more complicated than they seem. I’m working on a visual guide to help anyone who wants to make cc work for them. Sooo, keep an eye out, I guess!
