Redwoods have been my favorite type of tree for many years, so staying at a cabin surrounded by redwoods is a big deal for me. At the end of November we spent four days at a cabin in Sonoma County on the North Coast and these beautiful trees were the view from my room.

Redwoods are by far my favorite tree. After hiking for so many months in the mountains and foothills, it was such a treat to finally hike among the redwoods again in Muir Woods last December. Along the path in the park the sunlight gleams through the 200-foot tall trees to highlight just how beautiful and majestic they are. And while Muir Woods is not my favorite Redwood park, there is something still so magnificent about this special place in the bay.

everydaygothic:

The air is damp with the sea and fog caught between the hills. When you descended beneath the treetops, down to the forest floor, time stopped and everything went still. The only sounds are the distant echoing of water drops falling from branches and the whispers from around you. Perhaps it is the old gods speaking, or new gods preparing to rise. You look up. You cannot see the tops of the trees, only that trunks that extend ever upward.

Today’s magical redwood forest post is a guest post from my sister/hiking partner. We recently hiked in Mount Tamalpais State Park in the San Francisco Bay Area. It had been too long since I was exploring the redwoods and I can’t wait to share more of the photos.
