It’s time for our third Birthstone Cat Mat Collection reveal!
March has started with some nice cat TV and snacks for the kitties. They have been dutifully helping with Cat Mat production for our Birthstone Cat Mat Collection. The kitties are super are excited to reveal our March Birthstone Cat Mat, based on Aquamarine.
You may have noticed that I am working to standardize my Critter Crafting crochet Cat Mats. With some exceptions, the new listings to the shop are 15 inch by 15 inch granny squares. Hopefully, this way, I can begin to make more than one of each color/style, like this one! I plan to make more “patchwork” style Cat Mats in the future, as well, since the one I had listed a few months ago seemed…
Amethyst is a variety of quartz with a lengthy history. Neolithic peoples in what is now Europe used amethysts as decorative emblems as early as 4000 BC. Amethyst was favored by ancient Greeks and Romans, who believed the stone warded off Bacchus’ allure, keeping people “clear headed and quick-witted.” In the Middle Ages, Amethysts were used to symbolize royalty – unsurprising based on the reservation of purple dye for royalty as well.
The stone is associated with aspirational qualities such as peace, courage, and stability.
Very Important: the Cat Mat Details
TheAmethyst Cat Mat is our standard size Cat Mat. It is a medium size square that is purrfect for kittens or adult cats. For reference, the Cat Mat measures roughly 16 inches by 16 inches. It will likely stretch out with use, wash, and wear, though. The largely square shape makes it ideal for cat trees, beds, and carriers.
This Cat Mat, like all of the pet blankets in our shop, is machine washable. You can throw it right into the dryer, too! It’s just get softer with washes, so don’t be shy.
Here, Olivia meowdels how the Cat Mat can be worn as a cape! Very stylish. Super cozy.
Olivia was actually the more cooperative meowdel today. This is kind of unusual. Olivia is my squirmy girl. She loves to help out with everything, but really doesn’t like to sit still. On the other hand, Louis really loves to pose. Also, Louis likes to nap and does not like being woken up from a nap to meowdel. Usually, Louis is more patient…and less derpy. But we’ll give him a pass because he’s still pretty stinking cute.
The Amethyst Cat Mat is $20 + shipping. All of our orders ship super quickly — generally within 24 hours, definitely within 36. We use recyclable mailers and pre-nip all of the Cat Mats with the kitties’ favorite Cat Nip Spray!
We currently have one of these beautifully unique blankets available, so don’t delay!
As always, you can check out our other lovely Cat Mats in the shop.
Louis helped me test out one of our newest Critter Crafting Cat Mats a few days ago. He’s a good little meowdel when he wants to be. Luckily, our new Garnet Crochet Cat Mat passed his test and met his high standards!
What We Plan to Do
I made the Garnet Cat Mat before I came up with a new collection idea for my shop – birthstone-themed Cat Mats! Each month, I plan to list at least one dedicated Cat Mat corresponding with that month’s birthstone. (Someone, hold me to this, please!)
I can’t take all the credit – my super creative friend/the kitties’ auntie, Lauren, suggested the idea and I absolutely loved it.
January: the Garnet
January’s birthstone is the garnet. Garnets used to be called “carbuncles” and are referenced throughout Biblical stories and Ancient Rome, where they were commonly used in trade. In Ancient Egypt, garnets were considered prized possessions for the afterlife.
I’m partial to this stone because my birthday is in January, but I genuinely like the color independent of that fact. I used to wish I had a different one because, oftentimes, garnets are portrayed rather dimly or darkly. However, real garnets are bright and beautiful, just like this lovely red-hue!
Now, technically, the color yarn I used is called “burgundy,” but I think it is more of a garnet anyway.

The largely square shape makes it ideal for cat trees or beds.I’m partial to putting our Cat Mat on the cat trees and letting the kitties move them around as they wish. Sometimes, they wind up in the funniest places! We found a bunch under the bed when we replaced our box spring with a new Ikea storage bed.
The Garnet Cat Mat is $20 + shipping. We have two of these beautiful blankets available right meow! Click here to check it out.
Do you love your birthstone? If you ordered a Cat Mat from our Birthstone Collection, would you purchase your birthstone or your furbabies?

I don’t know about you, but the end of 2018 was a total whirlwind for us and the kitties. Louis and Olivia are quite disgusted with how much I have slacked on their blog here. I hope to get back to my regular posting soon.

My all time favorite color is green, and I’ve been making a bunch of green-based Cat Mats lately for the shop (like this oversized Sage Cat Mat!). The two-tone Cat Mat pictured below is one of my absolute favorites. It has a lovely soft green contrasted against a darker sage.
Like all of our other Cat Mats, this one is machine washable and durable. This Cat Mat measures roughly 15 inches by 15…
