Quenepa(Melicoccus bijugatus), also known as Spanish lime, limoncillo, mamón, genip, mamoncillo and a host of other names (like, tonsof other names!), is a fruit found throughout Latin America and especially the Caribbean. They taste like sour green grapes and have the texture of lychees. Like red wine, quenepas are also full of tannin; they will make your mouth pucker, but not from sourness. When buying quenepas look for bright green skin with few blemishes.

Quenepas are eaten as table fruits. Simply peel away the skin with a knife or your teeth and such the pulp from the seed. They can also be prepared with chamoy or a combination of chili powder, salt and lime.
