#cultural appropriation

LIVE

There’s been some shady/ shitty things Mariah has said over the past few weeks which I feel weren’t relevant enough to make an individual post about, but still important enough to document. So think of these type of posts as a little bit of a hodge podge of shit Mariah Mallad does.

#1 - Cultural appropriation of African face paint?

During the month of November Mariah started a… thing… where she would post autumny photosets. One set was of a wood fairy. She posted some photos when she was shooting, and caused some people to wonder if her facepaint was cultural appropriation of African face paint.

People responded her telling her they felt, and she made a post on Facebook explaining she actually just ripped it off from another cosplay.

As well as giving a shit apology to someone who was upset by the face paint.

Just an FYI, if you apologize to someone for something you did, don’t say “sorry thats how you took it” with a frowny face. It comes off pretty fucking passive aggressive.

 #2 - Mariah Snaps at a Patron

After realizing her discord had been made public by leakers, Mariah promised to make a new one for her patrons. Its been about a month and paying patron still do not have a discord, despite it being a reward. So a patron posts on a public post asking about it, and Mariah disregards his question because he isn’t a patron. The patron actually WAS a paying patron, however stopped their payment for this month for various reasons.

Despite the patron going into a FULL EXPLANATION as to why they needed to unsub, Mariah still treats him like shit and throws it into their face that they aren’t a patron.

This is how she treats her fans. She gives zero fucks about you unless you’re throwing money her way. And if you aren’t, then she’ll be rude as all hell to you, and throw it in your face how you don’t.

#3 - Mariah Ghosts Blizzcon

While she was at Blizzcon, people noticed that Mariah never actually went into the convention center or did… anything with the con. She just stood outside every day and loitered around. Mariah has admitted to ghosting cons before, and everyone believed thats what she was doing with Blizzcon too. After saying how excited she is for NEXT year’s Blizzcon, a Twitter user noted that she never actually went into the con. Mariah’s response was that went and got her badge and that was it. Reason:  She was only there from 1pm-4pm for photoshoots and had no time.

There have been rumors flying around that she never bought a badge when they went on sale, and that she actually bought a 1 day pass from someone when she arrived at the con. But I’m not really sure if thats true. I don’t know why she would only spend 4 hours at a con just to stand outside and not even take some time to go inside, especially since she claims she’s such a huge OW fan.

Hope you guys dig this format, lemme kno.

I’m super confused and I hope somebody can help me out here. I just saw a Christian Protestant church in Berlin which had the Hebrew letters yud hey vav hey written above its entrance. Is it common for Christian churches to use the name of G_d in this way? Is it cultural appropriation? I feel super uncomfortable with this and I’ve never seen it before. Any insights on this topic?

I haven’t posted on this blog in quite a long time (in fact, I thought about deleting it), but I’ve decided to keep it up as a reference.
I want to address something that I’ve gotten quite a few asks about in the past, which is what is cultural appropriation and what isn’t.

The gist of cultural appropriation is that it’s ok to appreciate a culture and learn all about them (I highly encourage people to actively participate in learning about different cultures actually) BUT!!! it is not ok to take culturally significant items, clothes, phrases/words, or beliefs and use them as an accessory or a trend.
Please note that I specifically mentioned CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE! This means that modern day wear such as j-fashion (aka Harajuku fashion), circle lenses, ulzzang makeup, etc. is not cultural appropriation!

Cultural appreciation is different from cultural appropriation as well. Cultural appreciation is exactly what it says on the can: someone respectfully appreciating a culture. An example would be if a person were to visit an Asian country to learn about their culture. That person might stay with a host family to practice their mastery of the language, eat local traditional dishes, practice the country’s traditions, try on historical and/or traditional garments from the country, etc.
They are treating the country and culture with respect.
The difference can be visualized as a person who has studied Japanese culture wearing a kimono to a formal event vs. a person wearing one of those “geisha” costumes prancing around on Halloween like “I ate a California roll once, I’m basically already a sexy geisha doll at heart! XD”

I hope this helps.

asian-boys-why:

Whyyyyy do you only date Asian girls?????

It’s seriously messing me the fuck up.

Like seriously, all the Korean, Filipino, and Chinese guys in my college seem to only date the other Korean, Filipino, and Chinese girls (these are the 3 predominant ethnicities in my class, I don’t know of any other).

And I know it’s not some ‘preference’ thing or that your family will only let you date within your ethnicity or stuff like that, because there were very few Korean guy and Korean girl relationships (maybe like 2), or ‘matching’ ethnicity relationships in my college.

Yet you would see a lot of Korean guy/Chinese girl, Chinese guy/Filipino girl, Chinese girl/Filipino guy, Korean girl/Chinese guy. SO OBVIOUSLY THEY’RE OPEN TO ONLY ASIAN GIRLS.

I wanted to bite my tongue earlier, but like… What gives? Asian girls are cute and shit, but physically, I could literally beat their asses. Me and the other white (Hispanic, Caucasian, Irish) girls in my class are all kind of just ??? because it doesn’t make sense.

I just wish you (Asian boys) would stop having preferences and look at the pros of dating girls like us: pretty colored eyes, banging body, personality-wise we’re more spunky and outgoing instead of shy and submissive and shit like that, and our families are less abusive and strict.

I need a fucking coffee break now, my head is hurting from all the frustration.

This is the same person. White girls always trying to appropriate. This is the same person. White girls always trying to appropriate.

This is the same person. White girls always trying to appropriate.
