WILL YOU BE MY MOM?
I remember when I first got #Miwa as a little baby she was so frightened of her new environment and #rat family. But then she met #Ella and immediately latched on and fell in love with her. I think she saw her as a mother figure. It was the sweetest thing!
Miwa would follow Ella everywhere, eat next to her and sleep by her side at night. And not once did Ella look annoyed or push her away. She was the best mom to her. ✨ I mean… look at Miwa’s face!!!! She’s so happy! ☺️

PWETTY PWEAAAASE.
This is the face I always get when I say NO to Toupee. How do I not give into that!?!
This morning I gave #Toupee and #Roux their breakfast of kale, cucumbers and blueberries. Meanwhile, my breakfast consisted of coffee and apple pie.
All was fine and good until Toupee smelled my yummy breakfast. She quickly ran over, put her hand on my thigh and looked up at me with her signature “pwetty pwease” look. She then licked my hand as if to say…., “Please use this hand to pick up apple pie and put in my mouth thank you.” Man! #Rats really test your strength! So far…I’ve failed every single time. #ToupeeThursday
✨PS - To be clear, if I had Toupee’s face and someone was eating apple pie…I would use my charms to get in on that too. She’s a smart girl. Love you Toops!

FAMILY PORTRAIT. (Challenge: Can you name ALL the rats in the photos hanging on the wall?) My #ratties #Roux and #Toupee got to visit their biological brothers #Bert #Beesley and #Nickels at @martymousehouse and we decided to do a fancy shmancy family portrait of all of them together!!! Look how adorable they are! The boys look so handsome and debonair and the girls look so poised and elegant! Very deceiving since we know these two girls are trouble makers! Since sarah and I both lost our ratties not long ago, we’re really trying to savor every moment and celebrate them any chance we get. And what better way to do that than hold a #rat party and do a family photoshoot … wearing bow ties and ribbons, lounging around a velvet sofa! This is like a Vanity Fair shoot! SHARING IS CARING. I wasn’t paying attention and found my sweet #Heaven eating some of my fried rice! Typically I would stop my #ratties immediately, but Heaven is a very old lady and has some health issues now, so I just let her do anything she wants! One of her favorite things to do is share my food with me whilst I watch tv. And then when we’re both full, she always looks up at me with her kind eyes and boggles and boggles until she falls asleep. In these moments, I take a deep breath and savor all it. She is getting arthritis in her back legs and also cataracts in both eyes, so now when I call her, she will look around for my voice and then slowly and gently walk over with her slow legs plop … plop … plop. But as soon as she smells my hands, she quickly opens her eyes widely, gives me kisses and immediately jumps on my lap for some love! And don’t get me wrong! Heaven still has a lot of sass and juice in her! Even with her old body, every day you will find her playing with her sisters, squeaking at them if they are irritating her and stealing their treats any chance she gets! In fact sometimes when I think she’s slowed down, I’ll hear a bunch of rustling… and it’s Heaven running around making her tissue fort! I love you my gentle Heaven!!! You truly live up to your name! CHRISTMAS LOVE.
Welp. #Heaven fell asleep during our photoshoot again! She cracks me up so much! Look how silly and adorable she looks! I love her to infinity. Unfortunately, #Mizu is under the weather, so she didn’t feel like taking photos, so for Xmas she was quite happy just to stay on my lap, get kisses and eat lots of delicious snacks. I feel so lucky to have Mizu and Heaven for #Christmas this year. Since they are old ladies, I never know how long they will stay with me so I savor each and every moment.
As for their little sisters #Roux and #Toupee - this is their first Xmas and they are LOVING it!
I think they wish it was Christmas every day! Happy Holidays everyone! ✨

POTATO BANANA CHIP.
#Potato puts on weight easily, so I have to limit her treats. But Auntie Sarah from @martymousehouse gave her a yummy delicious banana chip and Potato was forever changed! She was like, “What is this crispy banana thingy? It’s so much better than broccoli!!!!!!” Oh my little tater tot, you are wayyyyyy more delicious than a banana chip! I just want to gobble you up! POTATO HAMMOCK! I’ve purchased more #rattie hammocks than I can count … yet Potato’s favorite place to take her naps is in my shirt! I think she likes it in there because it’s close to my heart, it’s warm and she gets first dibs on snacks when I eat! Whenever she smells my food, she’ll pop her teeny head out, grab the yummy morsel and hide back in my shirt. It’s so adorable! #Potato NEVER wins when it comes to rattie food wars. Often, when she sees her sisters approaching, Potato bears down and holds her food tightly in her teeth. But unfortunately she isn’t very strong, so within seconds her sisters rip the food out of Potato’s mouth, leaving her squeaking and crying without her treat! It’s the saddest thing to witness! I really have a soft spot for this girl! So I’m happy to give Potato the VIP treatment and let her stay in my shirt for first dibs! It’s like having my own little baby kangaroo … she’s my PotatoRoo! MY DELICATE EATERS.
#Toupee & #Potato are my gentle, slooooow eaters! As we know, #ratties can gobble up food like nobody’s business but these two are just so darn dainty with their food! Such manners!
When I first got Toupee, her and Potato did NOT get along. It took me a while to understand what was going on between them, as Toupee was getting along with everyone else and Potato was getting along with Roux. It was just these two that had problems. After working with the both of them, I realized they had something in common: both were VERY sensitive and insecure.
Unfortunately, there was a lot of fighting and it was worrisome, so I ended up having to separate them and live apart. I was bummed there was a good chance they would never be able to be in the same dwelling. BUT I never gave up on them! I reached out to a few people who were rat pros in our community and they taught me very special techniques to try on the girls and I’m happy to say with persistence, a lot of patience and working on their fear, they are now BEST FRIENDS! In fact, of all the #rats , these two stick together the most! Isn’t it funny when that happens? So now, we are one big happy family! And my two slow eaters can now eat delicately… together! Nom. Pause. Nom. Pause. Nom.
PS! Do you see how at one point Toupee eats her cracker into a little heart?!?! I can’t.

RAT THERAPY. I always thought #Potato would make a great therapy pet! She’s sweet, gentle, cuddly and wonderful with children. She suffers from anxiety and afraid of all things big… so it makes sense she feels safer with kids. And she loooooves handsome boys! Look at her smile! Such a FLIRT! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! #Toupee and #Roux are obsessed with #Mizu - They see her as a mother figure and practically fight over who gets to sleep next to her! And as you can tell from the look on Mizu’s face, rambunctious kids can be exhausting!!! I’m so proud of Mizu, she’s taken on the role of mama so well! I love her so much! WHEATGRASS BABY! Baby #Toupee and #Roux got to try #wheatgrass for the first time and they absolutely loved it! In fact, Toupee went CRAZY over it. She suddenly started kicking, digging and popcorning all over the place (watch video)! She could hardly contain her excitement! And doesn’t Roux look like she’s giving me the side eye? I love watching them when their #rattie wild instincts kick in! So much fun! For those who haven’t tried, I highly recommend wheatgrass for your #ratties ! Not only is it good for them, the wheatgrass garden also stimulates their foraging and hunting skills! And it’s so easy to grow. Toupee and Roux are in wheatgrass heaven! SLEEPY ROUX.
Ever watch your #rattie sleep and just MELT? #Roux is a very mischievous and playful #babyrat who is constantly popcorning all over the place - but when she plays hard … she sleeps hard!!! Look at her crossed little arms, rattie feet and yummy belly! It’s almost too much to handle! Roux gets scared very easily, so I’ve been giving her a lot of hoodie time and comforting her with lots of love and kisses. It looks like she’s finally starting to feel safe with me. Don’t worry Roux, I will always protect you little one. You don’t ever have to be scared again.
