Chapter 21
Steve was a block away from the bookstore, nerves getting the better of him. His brain replayed Matilda’s reaction over and over, taunting him as he continued to move. It reminded him of the pain he had caused their baby the last time this happened. He began making deals with God in his head, asking for his little one to be spared any fear or pain. He would accept whatever price he had to pay if it meant she was OK.
