A/N: this is sort of a set up chapter to lay down the basics of the universe and introduce motivations.
The letter sent down was clearly once pure white but the travel through realms had yellowed the ends. The wax seal was silver and melting, dripping down the envelope decorated with elegant yet simplistic swirls that shown silver when sunlight hit it.
It was wholly pretentious. The once pure white served a reminder of the surrounding filth of the forced residence, the wax seal was doomed to melt in the flames of hell, yet the swirls were the true insult to injury. They knew damn well sunlight didn’t reach down here.

We hope this letter reaches you well, you’re receiving this letter to inform you of a potential upgrade to your status. Based on your good behavior The Council of Archangels would like to extend you an offer.
We currently have our eye on a human whom we believe could be a fitting angel, but before he can fully ascend he must resist temptation. The system he will be going through is referred to as “Standing Trial” he must prove himself worthy when faced with vices.
This is where you come in. You will be the temptation, you are the trial in question. You, should you choose to accept this offer, would be the one administering the test. This would benefit you in multiple ways, you would be allowed to once again walk the mortal realm, you would be allowed to cause mischief (to an extent) without fear of persecution, your greatest reward however depends on how well this mortal does.
In the event that the mortal stands before sin and temptation itself and resists, he would become an angel and you would return to Hell, but depending on your behavior you could be granted the ability to answer summonings.
However, in the event that the mortal succumbs and fails the test, he would be sent to hell, and you would be allowed to return to the mortal realm as whatever you desire to live out a natural life and be judged at the end of that natural life and judged only on that life.
Should you accept, you will be provided with clothing and housing in the town that the mortal resides in and once disguised you will be transported there immediately.
Should you reject, you will be surrendering any future chance of getting this opportunity again.
Think of this as your ticket out of Hell. It could very well be a one way ticket depending on your success.

Sunlight didn’t reach down here. But it did up there.
You look around. You feel the unbearable sweltering heat. You hear the unending screams. You taste the sulfur in the air. Everything around you coated in a layer of ash
You think of the mortal realm. You remember a summer breeze. You remember the songs of birds and the laughs of people. You remember the taste of a well baked pie. You remember flowers, animals and games and rivers. You remember walking through wooded areas and holding frogs and feeling the grass on your feet.
They sent this letter like you had a choice.
Somehow you manage to feel like a group of beings somewhere just got very smug, before you can reflect on that feeling your demonic traits retreat back into your body, your eyes close and reopen in a simple bedroom. A name rings in your head before you pass out from exhaustion and shock.
