I’ve always loved a good come back story so happy resurrection day or rabbit day, however you decide to spend it. This drawing was created for my friend @garrettmarkenson who is a fellow perfume enthusiast and invited member of Eau De Morte, a select perfume club @killscout and I created. If you know me, you’d quickly learn that I’ve had a olfactory obsession since I was a young girl. Every stage of my life has been marked by a particular scent and in my older years, my days are curated by a library of new perfumes that I select to match my mood, desires, time of day and clothing to name a few. Several years ago, I created three of my own perfume oils based on graphite drawings and aspire to become a perfumist in the future. It’s an art to create a signature scent and I receive endless pleasure indulging myself in this world. I could spend days reading perfume reviews and envisioning the descriptions in my mind’s nose. This piece was created with a set of pencils I bought twice, one to keep unopened and one to use. It is a scented pencil set inspired by four exotic woods, Western Hemlock, White Oak, Silver Teak, White Ash and reconstituted with Swiss perfume house Maison Mizensir. The self taught perfumist of this house is Alberto Morillas who created one of my favorite scents, Must de Cartier but also created other well known perfumes such as CK One, marking the innovation of the unisex perfume that became the scent of the 90s Gen X population. He also created Flower by Kenzo, Acqua Di Giò by Giorgio Armani, and Belle d'Opium by Yves Saint Laurent. The pencils were scented by this master perfumist with patchouli, incense and tonka bean. The scent isn’t subtle, it filled the room when I drew and it was such a lovely experience. It was capped off with my deeply perfumed eraser created by French perfume house Astier de Villatte. It smells of citrus, herbs and patchouli. This opened up and inspired so many new ideas for me. I hope you enjoy this piece and insight into the world of my perfume and pencil fetish.
