There was a scratching at the door. He let Gaspode in. The little dog slunk under the table, saying nothing.

Then Carrot went up to his room, sat in his chair and looked out the window.

The afternoon wore on. The rain stopped around teatime.

Presently, the moon rose.

The door opened. Angua entered, walking softly.

Carrot turned, and smiled.

‘I wasn’t certain,’ he said. ‘But I thought, well, isn’t it only silver that kills them? I just had to hope.’

I couldn’t find any Discworld reading order guides with art, so I did a thing! Pen and colored pencil on paper. Please reblog if you share, don’t repost.

Do you enjoy orangutan librarians? Angry witches with frying pans? An incredibly sexy educated and effective tyrant? Truth? Justice? Freedom? Reasonably priced love? Hard boiled eggs?* Then you’ll love Terry Pratchett’s Discworld!

If you’re not sure where to begin, a lot of people recommend:

1) City Watch series beginning with Guards! Guards! (sarcastic policeman forces social justice on his city and the world)

2) Tiffany Aching series beginning with The Wee Free Men (angry girl teams up with tiny, equally angry Scottish fairies to save her home and become a witch)

3) Death series beginning with Mort (anthropomorphized Death loves human inventions and cats, occasionally interferes in human affairs with wild results)

What’s your favorite order? I myself started with Going PostalandMaking Money (both of which I LOVE), then tackled City Watch, Death, and some others from there (I haven’t finished all the other books yet)!

*Outlandish Monty Python-esque humor and head-scratching footnotes?

Disctober 29: Friendship.

Make way for one of Discworld’s saddest scenes at all, ladies and gentlemen.

“A shadow appeared in the doorway.

Detritus walked in.

They looked at the limp shape in his hands. He laid it carefully on a bench, without saying a word, and went and sat in a corner. While the others gathered round the mortal remains of Acting-Constable Cuddy, the troll removed his homemade cooling helmet and sat staring at it, turning it over and over in his hands.” - Men at arms.

“Can’t one of you get him a blanket or something?” Cuddy said.
“A very fat man said, “Huh? Who’d use a blanket after it had been on a troll?”
“Hah, yes, good point” said Cuddy. He glanced at the five holes in Detritus’ breastplate. They were at about head height, for a dwarf.

I’m rereading some Watch books, so it seemed appropriate for me to try to draw one of my favourite duos again. I love Detritus and Cuddy’s friendship so goddamn much.

(”[I] had a commission for a French publication that seemed the perfect opportunity to create the painting Check Mort, which I had been developing in my mind for a long while.  Knowing that one of Terry’s favorite films was The Seventh Seal it seemed only fitting to parody the scene where the knight, Antonius Block, plays chess with Death.  Terry was battling Alzheimer’s by the time I created this piece, giving the painting an emotive dimension which was not part of my original concept.  I worked out the chess moves so that Terry’s pieces are positioned on the board to win.”–Paul Kidby)

AN unusual one for me, drawing a non oc! But I mean… it’s Rincewind, I can’t not draw that stupid fucker. :D

I think I captured the entire vibe of the poor fucking tool throughout most of the Light Fantastic and the Colour of Magic, and probably about the time he resigned himself to just never dealing with magic ever again. Which, at the end of the day, is frankly the only sane response to having to deal with the Dungeon Dimensions.
Honestly I ought to re-read the other books he’s in, cause most of my knowledge of him is in Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic and I know he’s also in Eric but that’s as far as my brain goes on Rincewind. Still he’s one of my consistenly favourite characters for various reasons and… probably is a bit of an inspiration for Solstice now that I think about it… :o

So, thank you @seekerpsycho for the excellent request! I don’t generally do others’ characters unless I really like them or it’ll be a good laugh, so if there’s any other things you lot want to see feel free to ask but I might say no if it’s not an oc of mine (because obv I’m more limited that way)
