LIVE

I may be the only one really into this, but I am so excited to see how these copies evolve in the coming episodes. As we saw with Hale in episode 3, Dolores doesn’t have complete control over them. They are their own beings now. Host Hale is already struggling with her newfound identity. Or, at least, the one she’s being forced to portray. She describes it as if her body is rejecting her. (Or perhaps it’s the other way around? The host is rejecting the body). It’ll be interesting to see how much their new lives, interactions, and experiences change them. Because identity isn’t static, it’s malleable and ever-changing over a lifetime. They could change to the point where their goals and priorities are no longer aligned…

Me:

Oh snap!

After watching episode three, I think it’s very likely that Hale is Dolores. Or, at least, a stripped back version of her Wyatt persona.

I had an inkling during the board meeting in episode one. When the male board member says: “You don’t have carte blanche…not without consulting him”,it’s not just the mention of William that visibly irritates her, but the idea that even after escaping the park, he still has power over her. The moment, as brief and subtle as it is, indicates to me that there’s a connection between the two. And so far, Dolores is the only one I can justify having such a reaction.

In episode three Hale displays certain behavioural tendencies (the child-like naivety, the compassion and introspection) that we’ve seen in a host before: Delores, from season one. Not to mention, the stark black and white imagery going on between them. Dolores in black, Hale in white. It’s now really difficult to see her being anyone else (although I’m still entertaining the idea it’s Peter Abernathy). And it makes sense for Dolores to quickly plant someone she knows and wholeheartedly trusts inside Delos. Not just because they can be easily controlled, but also because she needs someone who already knows what she knows about the world and the people their targeting. I’m struggling to picture Teddy, Angela, or Clementine as particularly good choices here.

Robots That Have Feelings

“Westworld” wasn’t the first show to give robots feelings, and it won’t be the last.

Let’s love each other and kill each other
