There’s a new second hand co-op shop on Brenton St. thanks to Emily Ross & Linsday Stewart. Big Pony opened back in November & have some awesome promo videos by Our Dynasty Our Destiny. The shop is spacious with plenty of room to browse their well chosen garments, shoes, jewelry & their stationery lines: Varity ConcertandCarnival. Be sure to stop by to say hello and check out their wares!

Where did the name Big Pony come from?

Big Pony is in fact the second name given to our boutique. The original name we decided upon was Eastern Promises. It goes without being said that neither of us had seen the motion picture of the same name, but had heard of it and knew it existed. We excitedly leaked it to a couple of folks to get feedback, to which people usually responded with a grimace or “keep lookin’” Turns out the movie is about brothels, etc, etc….thank gawd [sic] someone talked us out of it. Everyone did. Yeah. Actually everyone.

What or who has influenced what you wear and what you carry in your store?

It would be the city that influences us. Our friends, people on the street, people out at night….Also I really like magazines. I was gonna say the internet…but seriously magazines, internet, city, rayon. If it’s rayon I’ll wear it so that definitely influences me.

What are you playing in the shop?

That’s obvious. Rap, R&B, trap remixes, slow jams, sexy jams, strawberry jams.

This past Friday Fashion East was invited to attend the second annual [PHASE] Emerging Designer Fashion Show. This event showcased the work of fashion design graduates from the Centre for Arts & Technology. Using playful patterns, elegant draping or dramatic hemlines, the class of 2013 did a great job! Since we couldn’t post all the designs check out their Facebook page here. Congrats to the graduating students!

Be sure to check out Mills’ Fall Fashion show on Wednesday, October 2nd featuring graduating designer Laura Corkum’s Coleopteracollection

Happy Fashion week!

Fashion East was happy to be a part of the Big Day Downtown event this year and give some love to the great shops & attractions of downtown Halifax. This year we were asked to pick three keywords out of a hat that would shape our adventures: Dramatic,Creative&Playful.

With these adjectives in mind we headed downtown this past weekend to The Drawing Room at the Henry House on Barrington St. . The bartender poured us a delicious & dramatic-looking cocktail. The Drawing Room is the closest thing to a time machine in Halifax where you can order a drink off the menu based on the year it was most popular. We recommend the hit drink of 1915, the French 75

Afterwards we headed to The Seahorse TavernforJ-BRU’s CD release featuring other local rappers Quake Matthews,Jay Mayne and Toronto’s GQNumberOne . The crowd was appreciative, the rhymes were creativeandPropeller’s Horsepower beer had kick. We rounded off the night with a quiet 3am bike ride home.

To capture the last bit of summer on an otherwise bleak Monday we got in touch with our inner child and stepped into Yeh! Frozen Yogurt & Cafe. With so many options it was hard to choose only one topping ( Fruit Loops or Pop Tarts? ) so we ended up with some playfulcreations & maybe a slight sugar rush.

Much thanks to the Downtown Halifax Business Commission for inviting Fashion East to participate for another year!

Love,

The Ladies of Fashion East
