I had all of these, except for Dory and Dash
old sketch: Finding Nemo & MLP crossover
It’s been thirteen years since wee clownfish Nemo first waggled his little mismatched fins our way, and frankly a sequel feels long overdue.
The original ended with eponymous Nemo found and rescued all happily and whatnot (spoilers? Whatever, it’s been over a decade so get over it) so the sequel swims its way in a different direction, following lovable sidekick (and arguably the real star of the original) Dory and her quest to get reunited with her parents.
It’s a good idea to spin the focus from Marlin to Dory in the second outing, and Ellen Degeneres is great in the role; enthusiastic, loveable, sweet and funny. Her personality captures all of the traits of our sapphire heroine beautifully.
Her mission to find her long lost (and almost forgotten, obviously, because it’s Dory) family helps to wrap together everything we associate with all the good bits in the Pixar cannon: adventure, fun, humour and warmth, and as Pixar sequels go it’s thankfully more Toy Story than Cars.
Ok, so I will admit that it doesn’t really have the same emotional punch as its predecessor, but it’s nonetheless an enjoyable sequel that’s sweet and funny enough to keep fans of the original just happy enough.
☆☆☆.5
PS baby Dory is freaking adorable.
