Souvenir d'Ivančice. (1903) S.b.g. Alfons María Mucha (Tchèque)

Ivančice refers to Alphonse Mucha’s birthplace. In spite of extended stays abroad, (notably France, then United States,) Mucha retained a strong bond to Czechoslovakia. He returned in the later years of his life to create his Masterwork, The Slav Epic.
N.B.: Although Mucha’s most commercially popular works are Art Nouveau vitralesque affichage, when he made the works he passionately envisioned, it was undeniably Symbolist in it’s complex, esoteric themes and dark, enigmatic aesthetic. He irrefutably stands alongside the greatest of the Symbolists.
