Neoliberalism and Conservatism are both fascist or corporatist economic systems. Neoliberalism is when the government proactively gives power to private enterprise and conservatism is when the government intentionally fails to regulate private enterprise

Despite the flaws of Soviet democracy, it was a democracy at its core and was tailored to improve the material conditions of the USSR. Soviet Democracy should not be mistaken as a utopia or a authoritarian hellscape, but a historic forms of government which had its pros and cons.

What’s it about?
Largely the work of Engels, it’s an analysis of human history as a series of class struggles. For some reason, this approach had never occurred to anyone before.

So they were right about everything?
No. They could not have predicted outsourcing slavery to developing nations (called “globalisation”) or the extent to which labour could be bought off in a strongly materialist consumer-driven economy.

Stalin was bad. Although if you’ve read Game of Thrones and you can’t handle being uncomfortable occasionally, you should present yourself to the relevant authorities at first light.

What should I avoid saying when trying to convince people I’ve read it?
“Stalin.”
Should I actually read it?
Yes. This is a book full of simple, logical arguments motivated by nothing more than compassion. If it doesn’t make you re-think your ideas on the relationship between capital and labour, you’re not reading it properly.

February 21st 1848: Communist Manifestopublished
On this day in 1848, the Manifesto of the Communist Party - now known as The Communist Manifesto - was published. It was written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, often considered the founding fathers of communism, on behalf of the London-based Communist League. Engels laid the foundations for the theory, and had been drafting a treatise on communism for some years until he collaborated with Marx who developed his work and proposed the leading principles. The main ideas expressed in the manifesto are chiefly that capitalism and class struggle (between the proletariat and bourgeoisie) have been the chief concerns of society throughout history. Marx and Engels theorised that capitalism would be replaced by socialism and then communism, fulfilling their vision of global communism. Their work has been incredibly influential, and communism has become the ideological basis of several states including the Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China.
