Took my Laptop to the Beach this morning and Painted on Location, Came across a few complications where the lighting made it very difficult to actually see my screen as I was mostly getting my own reflection, and part way through it started raining. Non the less I was happily surprised when i got home and could see the paintings properly.

My second alla prima from life in Montreal. 3 hours, with an hour after inventing from my head, since the lighting situation in real life was no good. Harsh lights from everywhere, all the hair was lit up with very cool highlights that made her look grey haired, etc. 9 x 12 canvas panel, oils

Bison drawn from life before a thunderstorm rolled in. They’re almost never this cooperative, so it was fun to try to work some fur texture into these.

An old roommate and I took a little painting field trip and I stumbled upon the most perfect subject(s). My field study doesn’t do it justice, so I’ll likely make a larger, more detailed version of this painting sometime soon. Mushies!

ANOTHER ONE, a bit bigger this time on account of bigger subject matter. I’m going to be framing a bunch of these studies over the next week in preparation for a local show.

…had to finish this one at home because the humidity dampened the paper so much that I couldn’t get pencil marks down. Still trying to figure out a good shorthand for moss, too. Always learning.

It was warm for a second and the mosquitoes aren’t out yet- more field studies!

Fungi field studies, scanned this time. Each one is 4x6″ on watercolor paper, created with colored pencil/watercolor/ink/etc while crouching on hills and drainage ditches in the mud.
