gendering certain physical characteristics as masculine/feminine is deeply rooted in white supremacy. i mean things like “ tall, hairy and sharp features = masculine” and “short, hairless and soft = feminine”. latino men tend to be short. indigenous men in peru tend not to be hairy.. that doesnt make them any less masculine. we are just adhering to what white people think is masculine or feminine when there simply isnt and should not be a standard

The gender earnings gap is an oft-discussed topic, as it should be. The new College Scorecard websit

The gender earnings gap is an oft-discussed topic, as it should be. The new College Scorecard website from the US Department of Education offers average male and female earnings by school at six and ten years after enrollment (i.e., shortly after graduation, and after four to six years of work experience). I’ve plotted the change in the gap by subtracting the average female salary from the average male salary for some of the top-tier schools in four categories: medical institutions, private universities, private liberal arts colleges, and public institutions. As you can see, the gap always starts out smaller, but grows as men are promoted and given raises more readily. Out of all the schools, the only ‘negative gap’ – where women had a higher average than men – was six years after enrollment at Haverford.

Film Dialogue from 2,000 screenplays, Broken Down by Gender and Age

We didn’t set out trying to prove anything, but rather compile real data. We framed it as a census rather than a study. So we Googled our way to 8,000 screenplays and matched each character’s lines to an actor. From there, we compiled the number of words spoken by male and female characters across roughly 2,000 films, arguably the largest undertaking of script analysis, ever.

30 Days of Pride Day 14- Magnus Hirschfeld

Magnus Hirschfeld was a German physician and sexologist who was one of the first outspoken medical advocates for sexual minorities, founding the Scientific-Humanitarian Committee and World League for Sexual Reform. He maintained that sexual orientation was innate and not a deliberate choice, and he believed that scientific understanding of sexuality would promote tolerance of LGBTQ people. In addition to publishing works on sexology and sexual reforms, Hirschfeld also wrote about racism, politics, and the history of morals.

Hirschfeld was targeted by Nazis for being Jewish and gay; he was beaten by völkisch activists in 1920, and in 1933 his institute was sacked and had its books burned. He was forced into exile in France, where he died in 1935.
