(WIP) revision. Redoing the entire piece from the ground up. Instead of swords, I thought about giving him (what I believe are) Magic demon killing Mambele sickles for weapons. Completely different tribe, but maybe they’re gifts? Who knows.

AMASUNZURAI: REBELLION OF THE BLACK DREAM or KUROI YUME NO HANRAN (黒い夢の反乱) I went back and forth between this and “Kokujin no yume no hangyaku” which loosely translates to “Rebellion Of The Black Man’s Dream.” But it all came down to context and what I was trying to say. The second was a mouthful and more on the nose, where as the first one is open to interpretation. As for the title “AMASUNZURAI” which is just me fusing the Rwandan Amasunsu and word Samurai together. The style of hair is based on “Intanbike”. However I kept it rough because I wanted to show this character is constantly in battle. A lot of my designs in my characters are very “East African” in origin when you really look at them. The punk streetwear and graffiti is more so just a preference. A distinct and specific aesthetic choice that reflects how I see the world. Because my work is starting to get a more international audience, I’m incorporating/ embracing more of those eastern and western influences. But in a way that shows reverence for both. Thank you for those that bought @noircaesar’s XOGENASYS and are currently reading it. Figured I’d show you guys what some of the pages look like now that everything’s been printed. The entire book is about 301+ pages. Can’t show the whole book because I don’t want to spoil the ending. Took a long time to get right, but I’m happy that the story is resonating with people. Drawing manga is not easy. It’s not just “drawing cool pin ups”. There are certain beats you gotta hit and you really gotta think about what you’re drawing on the page and what’s the most effective way to get the story across. You have to mature. It’s a humbling process for sure. It will definitely test you and tell you about yourself. There were times where I wanted to quit. A lot of personal struggles that I had to overcome while drawing this. So when I look at this book, I see it a bit differently than others might. For me, I was fighting just as Darius was. I couldn’t stand Darius in the beginning, but the more I worked on it, the more pain I put on him and the more I invested in the story, the more he grew on me.
My job as the artist and co-writer was to bring as much life and depth to it as possible and to bring out the best in Johnny’s (@jobryant3 )vision. Okay, one more for today. Inspired by Lupe @lupefiasco , and channelled by Shing02 and Spin Master A-1…. I need to finish that other animation I did, but I just couldn’t stop myself. A lot of my influences shine through in these few seconds. Everyone from Chase Conley, Tatsuyuki Tanaka, Ronald Wimberly, Kazuto Nakazawa, Naoyuki Onda Tetsuya Nishio, etc…. It’s super brief but when this is done, it’s gonna be fun. I’m actually gonna take my time on it once Sankara is done. Just to see what I can make with the weights finally off.

Lookin back through NBA history, who do you have as the best player who never won a championship?
For me it’s got to be Allen Iverson. He came close during the 00-01 season, where he single handedly led the injury ridden Sixers to a 56 win record. The Sixers that year took game 1 of the NBA Finals against The Lakers, where Iverson dropped a 48 piece. @theofficialai3 will always be a champion in my mind!
