#brandon
Brandon writes like he prioritizes cinematic visuals over good storytelling and consistent characterization.
And I understand the compulsive urge to explain worldbuilding bits to readers immediately after introducing them so as to not disorient them a lot but it’s also not very good storytelling either. I like stories that let me think - I’m not drawn to stories that don’t let me think or do all the thinking for me. I like the anticipation of the explanation of wordbuilding bits just as much as the explanation itself.
And Brandon’s style also often (not always) involves zero subtlety and relies entirely on bludgeoning readers on the head with what he’s decided they should specifically feel about certain characters and plotpoints instead of letting them make informed decisions based on writing that tries to steer you towards a particular direction through carefully planted hints and narrative choices.
