The Moody November Series

The cold loneliness of the last leaf clinging on in an otherwise barren landscape really sets the mood of the month.

A fairy-tale like trail turns to the stuff of nightmares after the bright high summer sun, canopy of leaves, and chirping birds and insects disappear for the season. Gnarly tree branches and roots, jagged rocks, and the dead silence of the empty woods (except for the occasional scampering of a rodent through the fallen leaves) greet you on your way down to the Minnesota River in Minneopa State Park.

Crossing a small footbridge on a lonely walk in the woods of November makes one stop to ponder trolls and other supernatural creatures stirring about. But then you realize it’s just the squirrels gathering the last scrap of nuts before the snow sets in.

2020 was so full of “turmoil”, unruly waters menacing to sweep us from our feet, we feel almost hesitant to wish a happy 2021, most would settle for a “happier” year, so many changes, unexpected turns, moments of sorrow and moments of awareness. But all I wish for is dome stillness and peace, healing safety. Hope we have learned from its lessons and appreciate more the small things. So maybe in time, we look back, wiser. Some of us will do, I am sure.
But let us not forget learning us a positive thing. We should never take things for granted, let is be grateful for the hugs of our closest. Ready for another spin around the sun with something close to hope blooming in my heart.

Be kind to yourselves as we recap in this time of balance. I, for the first time wont go for impossible resolutions, just to move forward each step after another.
